Hello there to all and Happy New year.

I took teh troopie, a 1HZJ78 with 1HZ engine and aftermarket safari turbo for a run out to Shady for a fish on Friday. A trip of about 500km towing a boat.

About 200ks in the car started running at about 2200 revs only so about 90km/h

Got out there and checked filter etc etc. Limped home at between 80 to 90km/h. I noticed if I stopped and pumped up the fuel filter it went a bit quicker till it slowed, so i feel there is air getting in somewhere. I blew back the pipe from the filter to the tank, (with my mouth ) and then pumped and pumped. I could hear the air, escaping but it sounds to me like it is the top of the pump unit itself (when I say this I mean the pump at the top of the fuel filter) Does anyone elses filter pump make an air sound after you pump?

Anyway pulled apart the stop solenoide today to check that little filter wasnt full of dirt, nope looks good.

So I tried to pull the fuel intake where it joing the IP off. Couldnt get it to come apart. As I undo it the pipe also twists around. I tried pushing a screw driver between the intake pipe and the body of the IP (see photo) with no result.

I could feel it was a little loose, but the pipe seems to be stuck to the bolt. Is this normal?

Anyone got ideas how I could seperate them? Is there any sort of gauze filter in there? Im thinking if its not air its gotta be dirt.
I really dont want to bust that pipe off its mount....

IP seems good and it all runs good today. This has happened to me on and off I must say.

Hey just on another note, I managed to fix my high beams. They wouldnt stay on, only in the pass mode. I had to replace a switch, which was nice. Only cost me about $75.00 for once. That has to be a good thing.

Thanks for any ideas

Chris

Hi chris. There is a mesh filter under the banjo bolt(thats the one that is stuck) From memory they are supposed to be torqued down so you dont have this problem.
At this point I might leave it with a good diesel shop, they have probably done this before

I don't recall any air coming from my primer pump.Yours probably has a bad seal and needs replacing.
This is likely to be your main reason for air getting in. I'm not sure if they are rebuildable.

Thanks for that Rosco, I will get onto getting and replacing the pump and next time it goes in for work I will get them to pull that banko bolt off and see if there is something under there that shouldnt be (dirt I mean.

thanks for taking the time to find the link too.

Do you have dual fuel tanks? Ive seen 2 landcruisers get blockages where the fuel solenoids meet.
But I think the primer pump will be your problem ;)

Hi Rosco,

Yeah i do have dual tanks and thought the same thing, but it all seems good at that end. I have ordered a primer pump and will see how I go,

Chris
So how did you go? I’m dealing with the same problem atm, I changed my primer pump and still have issues, just took out the injector pump to test it.

Have you made sure there is definitely no air leaking into the fuel lines?

I just replaced that banjo bolt filter on my own pump. Along with the copper crush washer.

It was disgusting. Probably original from 1992. I have no idea how any fuel actually flowed through it.

Part number 22160-64010.

I had a similar problem.
I used a clear line from the fuel filter to the pump.
I could clearly see air bubbles.
I turned out the the little pump on the fuel filter was leaking air into the line. I replaced the fuel filter bracket/pump thing.
