Hey there,

New to all this. I am having some issues with my 2006 Landcruiser HZJ78R 4.2L DSL 1HZ.

I've noticed a fuel leak coming from the bottom of the Fuel Filter. Along with the leak we are having issues with the car taking a while to start, misfiring/stuttering around the 2000rpm, and as we go uphill, loosing significant rpm and not being able to regain rpm. As well as after long drives, the car turning off say going around corners or stopping at traffic lights.
I live remote in AUS, NT and drive long distances (3.5 hours) to get to my nearest Woolworths, short drives we don't notice anything besides turning on rough, but after driving for about 30 minutes then we start to see issues.

I've attached some pictures and videos. Would the leak shown, be coming from the Fuel Filter Sensor or somewhere else in the Fuel Filter system?

Thanks :)

You are getting air in the system, most likely from where it is leaking fuel from. There is an o-ring under that plastic water drain, that might be the culprit, but being the drain is just plastic, they tend to Crack with age, and when someone overtightens them.

They are a relatively inexpensive part to change out. Once your leak is fixed, it will drive like before.

Thanks!

Forgot to mention we just (week and a half ago) had the fuel hose, primer and primer pump and secondary filters replaced. I believe they put a new o-ring on as I checked the o-ring yesterday and seemed to be in good nick. The filter however was pretty dirty, cleaned that but still having the same issue.

Looking at getting a replacement sensor, but getting mixed messages about which one is right for my car. This is the one currently on my Troopy Online Auto Parts | Car & 4X4 Parts - Right Fit, Right Price - https://www.onlineautoparts.com.au/products/Fuel-Filter-Water-Sensor-Fuel-Water-Filter-84461-28041/ZPN-57160
but this is the one that is being suggested for my troopy: Online Auto Parts | Car & 4X4 Parts - Right Fit, Right Price - https://www.onlineautoparts.com.au/products/Fuel-Water-Warning-Switch-Fuel-Water-Filter-84461-35060-suits-Toyota-Landcruiser-2006-HZJ78R-78-Series/ZPN-17071

All a bit confusing!

Interesting. I have bought parts from onlineauto before and they are pretty good at matching up the right products with the right vehicles. Many of these parts are interchangeable as well, so it is hard to say. When I looked up a 2006 HZJ78 on partsouq, this is what I came up with:

https://partsouq.com/en/search/all?q=8446160080&qty=1 which shows unavailable but they crossreference with 8446160082 - which onlineparts does not have. It is up to you which one you choose. Save the O-Ring as that comes with the filter, and not the level switch when you change them out. Could you tell if the plastic level switch was compromised in any way when you inspected the o-ring? Sometimes it is difficult to tell, as all it takes is a hairline crack. Best of luck on this!
