Yeah, I notice it doesn't smoke as much as it did before the mod, especially going up hills at night, when we were coming back from Hale Creek on New Years. I normally see a light cloud behind me, but now it doesn't happen.

I notice this all the time, and I remember when I was talking to Christian a while ago (quite a while now I guess) he was asking me if I noticed this in mine because he was seeing it with his. I think this was before he got his new exhaust though :)

Ryan you haven't got the 3" yet? How could you resist so long? :p

Probably because I haven't been hanging out with guys that have had it done ;p No temptation as a result.

Time to sell those aristos and that alpina. You don't need that ****!

I'm losing some interest in my Aristos, but I don't think I'll let go of the Alpina unless someone wants to give me some serious cash :D Just because I have fast cars doesn't mean I'm not a redneck at heart :hillbilly: LOL

I have no smoke issues at all stock........:flipoff2:

My fuel consumption is rather high though:confused:

It sucks how the market had plummeted
Have you had interest?
I would love to own a rally car though I think I would prefer to have a 79 series over one

JDM is deader than dog s***. Hell I might import me a nice Benz C36 AMG and engine swap the 190 Sportline!

Great pic of your HZJ77 ZX in your garage. What type of roof rack do you have on there?

Its my dads homemade with stainless brackets and towers. The deck is aluminum with plastic decking. It had been on my dads old bj70 for about 8 years.

I have currently drawn up a similar design to better accommodate my truck. Slightly higher so the one spot doesn't touch by the sun roof.
Stainless towers again and behind the sunroof will be a full deck easy for tying stuff down. There will be an outer frame around the sunroof that will be built in as a solid unit as the complete frame of the rack. This will allow more stuff to be put on roof but provide the sunroof with a bit of protection. Hopefully I haven't confused anyone. I will probably have a bit more time in March or April when I get laid off of work before school to get this complete.

well i have my truck almost completely moded out have to wait a bit for the rings to break in a bit.then we will boost to 18 maybe 20 lbs i dont have much time behind the wheel but wow.took it around the block at atebs with lance shotgunning (he thought we were getting pulled over when the turbo spooled up),didnt really test it out to much cause my egs read a little high. but then john said he moved my sensor a little closer to the turbo when he tucked the exhaust inside the frame .hard to say what mod is the best but ,i am thinking i might want to keep the hubs locked in, cause it can go snakey quite easy .i mean tire smoking at 20 mph if i boot it and crank the wheel.well i have always been parinoid about my trany temps but believe it or not the trany runs cooler the harder you run it dont know if it is the fact that the turbo spools up insainly fast and pulls in to lockup then just keeps pulling in lockup.ya ya ya sounds like im going to kill another trany. so john and philip have done some hp mods to my truck last week ,internal tweeking of the pump ,shaved the aneriod, customized my turbo, added a skyline inter cooler ,and turned that 2 inch square oxygen robbing intake manifold into a 5 inch vortec plenum ,besides the basics maintainance stuff like pistons ,rings, valve grind ,seats ,timing belt, etc.sorry i am not up to speed what they did internally but wow .i would not have thought you could do this to these motors .only day 2 so hope it last ,but all the same thank you gentlemen ( ateb ) i am a happy camper.

Yeah, the turbo sounds like an emergency vehicle siren is coming up on you from a distance, I was looking around for the bloody lights to see where they were coming from.

Agreed- Was interesting to see the HDT with the pistons out. Nice motor indeed. Mine is pretty smooth but you could put a martini glass on George's valve cover, start the thing and the glass wouldn't move. Not a hint of smoke on idle either...

morning guys wow who crapped in the bed ,cause i know you guys dont work together? but it does smoke at cold idle still, could be residew in the exhaust,or just the rings not mated in yet. wish i would have done the fuel mods seperatly after the turbo just to see the difference, but it is definitly going to take some getting used to not useing the throttle. looks like im going to have to take my skinny studded tires off before i burn them up,cause i cannot stop them from breaking loose.going to get it on a dyno once the motor is ready. to bad they dont tweek bikes , i would love to get those gains out of my beamer.

LOL...Yeah, studded tires probably aren't a good idea for a dyno run anyway :D

You mentioned they customized your turbo...What was involved and what was the point in that? I don't know what was done, but seems like it would make more sense to change out the turbo? I'm intrigued that's for sure :)

Nope, nothin'. I've only had one call on the 5spd. Which is a bit surprising, but at the same time I think the market is pretty small for a 17 year old RHD family saloon car that's been converted to a manual transmission and capable of 500 bhp :o

The point is more power and responsiveness. Phillip explained some of it to me when I was in there last, and while I can't recall all the details here is what I remember (someone please correct my mistakes):

The intake crossover/plenum (or what ever it's called) was cut and enlarged to allow for more air volume. This coupled with the added intercooler allows a lot more cooler air, which in itself is a huge improvement. There were extra vanes added to the stock turbo's impeller allowing it to spool up faster. Something else was done to the turbo, but I forgot exactly what

From what I understand, there are no other turbo's (aside from the Gbentik model here on 'mud) that can easily make such improvements on this engine.

YES IM NOT TO UP YO SPEED WHAT ALL TOOK PLACE BUT THE HOUSING HAS BEEN INLARGED TO EXCEPT A BIGGER IMPELLER ,a couple extra vains also as well as a sharper pitch IMPELLER WAS THEN FITTED TO THE HOUSING (ITS A ATEB HOME GROWN LOCAL SPECIAL ORDER THING ONLY I WOULD THINK). basically i would like to see someone who is dialed in to compare the gbenicks turbo with this one. the inter cooler is a 3 inch for what its worth.apparently i have one more mod to do to the pump once everything is broken in. but lets not lose fact that it is a diesel ,the key is longivity.

A part of me thinks someone has bought a gbentink one and taken it apart and document it
The thought has crossed my mind to do this
One doesn't have to let the whole world know

Graham's truck already had the power rod in his truck, it came like that from Japan, but it was installed incorrectly by PO, so that's why John had a bitch of a time to tune it to factory settings to help improve power without the smoke, on Graham's truck before. When John went to put the mod in Graham's truck, he noticed he already had it, but with a bit more aggressive delivery on the one from Japan, than theirs.

I don't think I'm going to see any fuel savings with this mod. After the trip last night to YVR and back home, I had my foot to the floor leaving every traffic light, boost gauge pegged instantly to 1.1 bar, exhaust just roaring, and a big smile.

I don't understand your position here. What does this thread have to do with Gbentinks stuff?
