My original plugs meet the specs of your drawings. The new Y-715R plugs i have vary in length from your dwg.. the reason i was asking is i have read now of lots of guys using the Y-715R and saying they are great. Just wondering why my plugs are different than the other guys and the same as yours?

The engine is a 91 1HD-T fitted into my 96 FZJ80.

could you other guys measure the new and old plug you have for me as a comparison?

I have fitted the new plugs as they install a bit shorter than the original. Not sure how well they are working yet as I have not finished the glow plug system intall 100 percent yet. Setting up a manual system as i didn't get all the bits for the complete conversion. so it never worked 100% yet. up till this point i thoght it was the plugs now Im not sure.

I don't know enough about this engine to say which plug is correct for it (and you can research the matter as well as I can).

But those two plugs don't look to me to be equivalant to one another. In other words - I suspect they're meant for different engines.

No matter what brand of plug I buy, the dimensions should conform almost exactly to a standard.

I found this stored on my computer so I think it is the dimension standard for my particular plugs:

So I think you should double-check you've got the correct plugs there before fitting them.

Should have asked what engine are you running these in? the 40 from your signature?

cheers

Mine were the same. I installed them for the same reason, shorter than the original so not going to cause any damage. They are working perfectly.

Yes. I run them in B engine in my BJ40.

And it has come back to me what the image was about ...

I did quite a bit of research (along with others here) on the plugs for B-series and H-series engines and that image represents what is "standard Toyota glowplug dimensions" across ALL those engines (and it is taken from information plug manufacturer HKT has provided in their sales literature).

Whether or not it is the standard for absolutely all Toyota engines I can't say (but it may well be for all I know).

I've seen variations of about a millimetre in the important dimensions (like how far the tip pokes into the combustion chamber) but never anything significant there.

("Overall length", and "the thread-size of the electrical connection" are what I'd class as "unimportant dimensions" and I have seen significant differences in both of those.)

Unfortunately your engine is too recent for me to be at all knowledgable about because I'm firmly planted in the 1980s and earlier....

I've played around with the image you posted before and aligned the two plugs according to how they'll sit in an engine with the red line marking where each will seat in the cylinder head:

Big differences!

Most alarming to me is the difference in where the thread lies.

edit: I should say "should seat" rather than "will seat" because the plug dimensions are so different that one may not seat at all in the way it is supposed to (IMO).

I would install the old plugs, mark the threads (or note how many threads are showing) once completely threaded in and then do the same for the replacements. Then remove them and compare the difference.

I assure you there is no interference with mine and they appear to be identical.

Have used both and switched in both engines Different numbers but visually identical plugs.
