Thought this was a 1HD-FT alternator when I purchased it.

Bought the alternator and had a repair shop do a fresh overhaul - new brushes and bearings about 3 months ago.

Turned out it was for a 1HD-T and so does not fit :mad:

Would make a great spare for anyone with a 1HDT motor -- cant exactly buy one of these in Autozone!

$200 plus the ride or straight up trade for a 1HDFT alternator

1HD-T and 1HD-FT alternators are interchangeable as far as I know. Where you run into problems is when you instal a 100 amp alternator where the engine was originally equipped with a 60 amp (or vice versa) The 100a is larger body than 60a and requires the curved slot adjusting bar to be changed out to match.
That part number is the Denso number, is there a Toyota number on it, like 27060-17160 or something?
 
I believe it says 12V -- i'll check on that and the other part number when i get home on Thursday.

Didnt know you could do that with the curved adjusting bar. I think this is the 80amp whereas the one I have is a 100amp.

Yup, 80 amp Alternator. 92/08-95/04 HZJ81 number, Subs up to -17171 and is a good part number for 96/08 up 1HD-FT HDJ81
EPC shows 80 and 100 amp alt detail on same line drawing so it's a large body alt
like the 100 amp.
So in order to use this alt on a 1HZ, 1HD-T or 1HD-FT that originally came spec'd with a 60 amp,
you will need to order a large body adjusting bar or what Toyota calls
Bar, Fan Belt Adjusting #16381-17020 either from a savvy US dealer, or from Dave in Japan.
$10 part.. no biggie.

Plug changed after 92/08. Jumper available to convert from early to later plug style as you can tell by the pic.

Please help the newbie!
I just got a 140Amp alternator from Auto8 in Australia. I've ordered the larger bracket(Fan Belt Adjusting Toyota, 16381-17020) Five times!
Why five? Every on-line vendor accepted the order, then cancelled two days later due to "part no longer available".

The bracket is also found on the '92 Toyota Coaster Bus. Does anyone have a line on one of these brackets? Better yet, How do I get in touch with "Dave in Japan"
