1HD-FTE Timing Belt Change

I plan on doing this over the next week or two and wanted to ask for any tips. I have done a search and there is plenty on the V8 but not much I can find on the 1HD-FTE.

Has anyone done this and could help with a few questions.

The first being that the the FSM calls fo rthe removal of NO.1 CAMSHAFT TIMING PULLEY along with CAMSHAFT OIL SEAL RETAINER.

I assume these have to come off but not sure why as all I want to do is replace the waterpump.
 
you will have better luck in the diesel section .. but yes you wanna replace water pump while you are in there ..

most of people in this forum own a V8 cruiser, not that many of them own a diesel version(1HD-FTE) of that particular truck (there are few guys here from Australia they might be able to help you out ) . Good luck with your repair,
but I think you should replace your water pump as well. Because timing belt directly rotate the water pump it’s a safe bet to replace it while everything is out in the open (just like on a V8).
 
Thanks for the replies, could one of the mods move this to the Diesel tech section rather than me posting twice.
 
the real reason to do the water pump while timing belt .. it's you can't replace WP without accessing the timing belt cover and guts ..
