Dear all!

I have a 2000 HDJ100 and discovered that the FIP cover is covered in diesel. I’ve pulled the cover, gave it a good enough clean and it seems like diesel is seeping from beneath the head of this bolt. Not from under the plate, but from under the head of the bolt (?!?!)

This is on the left side of the pump, near the lower half.

I guess pulling this little cover is not a good idea.

Does anyone ever seen this happen?

It's typical for the seals to start leaking when they get this old. I've resealed a couple myself - one electronic and one mechanical pump. Wasn't that hard; but I do all my own work on my vehicles. You could send it away for a reseal, or just change that one seal while leaving the pump on the vehicle. Or just ignore it for now....doesn't seem very bad.

Thank you!

Yeah it's not that bad. Anyways I'd prefer if it didn't leak. I'm just worried that if I undo the bolt something will get out of adjustment (that's under the cover). But if the cover can be removed without issues, I'd go for a new seal. I also have no idea where I could source the seal at/from?

A reseal job at a professional here where I live costs around $3000, so I'd like to avoid that really for this one seal if possible.

Regards

Is it the piston timer cover? Any Toyota dealer or fuel injection specialist would be able to source the part. It doesnt mean they would have to rebuild the whole pump. I cant see the part number but it may crossover to other pumps as well.

Aaa, so that’s the name of it:) I think it is, yes. Can the cover be removed without dramas, or does it need a special environment?

Thank you!

I think it can be removed safely but Im not 100% sure and I m not sure if thats what it is. I need a bigger pic. A denso dealer may also stock parts

Thank you again! I’ll try and take a better pic and meanwhile find a denso dealer. Interestingly enough today it wasn’t leaking (?!?!) though. Maybe it only leaks at a certain rpm? I don’t understand

Most likely leaks when its hot and slightly pressurised. There could be an o ring and/or a gasket

Like this? You can find a lot of pics on google images.

And this is a Bosch Zexel timing cover, probably off a Nissan diesel. The timing cover gasket could be the same size. There is often a lot of commonality between Bosch and Denso. This timing cover protrudes because it has a sensor inside.
