I finally got around to completing some old projects in my shop and one was swapping out the bad engine in my 96 FJZ80 with a new one a picked up quite a while ago (project and truck have been sitting around waiting for a few years). I pull the 1FZ and well I was prepping the new bare block I noticed the back of the crankshaft on the new engine does not stick out of the block as much as the old one, I also noticed that the inside size of the crankshaft hole on the end is also bigger on the new engine. I am thinking that the new engine had a manual transmission and the my old one had the automatic. Does anyone know for sure, maybe has run into this before. I have included pictures the first one is my 96 FZJ80 (US Spec) The second one is from the replacement FJZ. Notice my original engine the crank sticks out about another 1/2 inch.

Any information from someone who knows for sure is appreciated.

Cheers,

Michael

tlc- I assume you don't know anything about the donor truck the new 1FZ came from? For example, do you know what model year 80 the donor engine came from?

The first picture has the removable spacer for the drive plate. the second picture does not have the spacer. just remove your spacer and clean it up, then put it on the new engine. The cranks are the same. later robbie

No not sure what year, but it is from JDM Cruiser I think last year before they went to distributorless !FZ.

HI Robbie,

So that is just a spacer that comes off the back of the crank shaft, Wow really did not look like one but I will attempt to pull it, that would make more sense seeing as how there is no mention of differeence in engines or cranks from auto to manual.

P.S. I am really glad you kept my old 93' alive and I was glad to see you wheeling it at Moab in 05' (I had the diesel 70 series ragtop).

Cheers,

Michael
