Hello,

New member here and am in the market for a early model Landcruiser...So question being, I test drove a very clean one owner '99 cruiser today with 150,000 on the dial, everything went well but I noticed a slight buzz when the transmission shifted. This was ONLY when I accelerated hard, under normal driving speeds the noise was nonexistent. Is this the sign of a dying transmission? I talked to the owner about it and he said that he never noticed it and that the transmission fluid had been changed recently. The buzz was not very loud and produced no vibration...it almost sounds like when your ABS kicks, but not nearly as loud.

I noticed while doing a quick search that there is a TSB out for the 1999 year (NV00101) for a transmission "buzz' and that the high speed output gear needed to be replaced. Could this be it? I failed to get the VIN number, I'm sure that might have produced some clarity that the TSB had been taken care of.

Please any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. He wants $10,500 for it and feel its a great deal and know it wont last long. Am I being too paranoid or should I run away from it??

Thanks in advance!

Drive it again and check to make sure nothing is leaning against the differential shifter on the console. Under hard acceleration the diff shifter will buzz some as the transmission shifts. I believe there is a thread on it.

Thanks for the reply Dwight...I've been searching for the thread and still can't find it. So I guess this is normal behavior then...it will "buzz" under very hard acceleration?? I don't recall anything leaning against the diff switch, but I will take another test run before I hand him a check. I personally think I'm being a little over sensitive and paranoid about it...that's a bit in my nature. I just wanted to test the water and see if anyone else on Mud had experienced this!

Thanks again, and if any other member has any experience with this, any response or advice/wisdom would be awesome!

Wow...thanks again Dwight! That thread basically explains it. I guess I have a decision to make then...
