HI. I am looking to buy an FJ100 series. I have seen a few in my area and I see one car dealer selling a 1999 LX470. It looks good and drives fine and has relatively low miles for it's age. The dealer is not a top line NEW car dealer but one of those corner lot people. His cars seem decent and his business has been there for quite a few years. His inventory is definitely above that of other independent type car dealers I have been to.
My question is about the Air Suspension. He says he replaced the LX470 suspension with Landcruiser parts. I see some internet places selling the shocks and springs for use in the LX470 to get rid of the air suspension.
I looked under the truck and the shocks look new in the back. I did a quick look and would need to check the front. I can't remember now if the springs looked new or not. The truck drives okay.
He says because the factory equipped LX470 suspension is gone, the truck shows LO on the dash where it indicated the suspension setting.
My question is about the modification itself. Are there any adverse results from changing out the air suspension with a more standard one? Does it harm the computer or other electrical parts? Would it cause any Check Engine lights or ODB II Codes since the air system is gone? (I have to pass emissions tests where I am at) Does it change the stability of the vehicle appreciably? Other than the ability to adjust the ride height, what other functionality is lost when this modification is done?
Thank you.
