Hi,a while ago I bought a 1999 one owner 4Runner.Recently it has a check engine light on and I want to check the code but cannot find the OBDII plug! Now I am used to work on diesels so all this OBD stuff is new to me:eek:

Can anybody tell me where to find the plug so that I do not have to go to the dealer or somebody else to pull a code.

Thanks

Joeri

As I recall, 3rd gen 4Runners have the port on the right side of the steering wheel at the bottom of the dash - like down toward the gas pedal.

Thanks,my wife took it to work today so I will check this tomorow. The other day I was looking for it and opened the fuse panel under the steering wheel, thinking that it would be the same as my 80 series but did not find anything. But I will check the right side this time:cheers:

Yes under the dash to the right of the steering column way over next to the console. It's black if I recall so that's why it is hard to see but sticks out without removing anything.

My '99 2.7l Tacoma has it's diagnostic port in the engine bay. Right next to the intake manifold.

My 4Runner and my 80 have those to,but there still should be a OBDII plug also on your Taco.

It is under the dash, driver's side, to the right of the steering column.

OBD Clearinghouse

The port is required to be under the dash, within 3' of the driver's seat, and you must be able to locate it without any tools.

It's a crappy iPhone pic, buts there. See the missing screw, up and to the left it's a black piece hanging down by it's lonesome.
