craigslist 1997 lx450 with issues for $1750 obo - thoughts?

Now that I have my 91' 80 (loving it) finding it a little bit of a challenge to find parts timely, and dumping $$$, I figured why not look for a 97'. This thing is in NY, ad claims it overheated slightly, got towed home and sat. States runs well, but mold on the interior due to it sitting (?). Thought about taking a ride to see it this weekend. But figure it at least needs a head gasket and a bunch of other stuff. Ad is light on details, no email back yet. Unknown if it has lockers. It's about a 120 mile ride r/t. That's basically most of the day for long island. Is it worth looking at? I'm leaning to no, it's junk unless... Please discuss.

i would ask for some more pics and a phone #. see if you can get pics of engine bay, under carriage and this mold they are talking about. remember LI area has had flooding too.

yeah, will see if I hear back from him and those questions and more if he gets back to me. If mold is growing inside...then electronics are probably getting corroded.

I also have a 91, and I hear you. If I was to upgrade, I would invest in a semi-decent truck, not a FJZ80 with overheating problems that has been sitting and could become a project. That said, the price is cheap, the color is good, and you can always use it to upgrade the 91 (rear disk conversion, for example) and sell the parts you don't plan to use, if the 97 is too rough.

I must say that, in my experience, one photo CL ads have a high scam potential.
