In my 1994 Hilux Surf w/ 1KZ-TE, the thermostat is part of the water inlet housing. It sounds like this is perhaps unusual as other engines have the thermostat controlling the flow of hot water out of the engine. Does anyone know-- in this situation where thermostat is closed at the water inlet, is hot coolant thus free to leave through the outlet? If not, what stops the hot coolant from leaving the block? Thank you!
