I know there's multiple great writeups especially on 1997 cruisers, just wanted to pass along my $.02. I couldn't bring myself to pay the dealer for this job so here's what I did while NorCalSam was at work today.
1. Removed the instrument panel cover and unhooked all of the electrical hookups in order to get to the stereo.
2. Removed the stereo and disconnected the antenna power cord.
3. I attached coated wire with electrical tape to the antenna cord so I could pull it back through and have a pull wire to repull the new antenna hook up to the stereo.
4.Removed the old power assembly through the little opening under the hood.
5. Now I tried to pull the wire from the radio to the antenna location but it wouldn't budge. I couldn't see where it was routed at all to get to the radio. I could feel up in the corner where it left the panel area to enter the cabin of the truck, but couldn't get it to budge.
6. So I cheated. Left the seal in place from front quarter and cut the antenna wire. Cut the antenna wire on the other end as well. Figured why can't I run the new cable through the very easy to get to opening where the CB cable runs through.
7. Taped more coated wire to the new cable and ran it through. I had to remove the glovebox for this. Then I ran it up behind the radio area and plugged it into the radio.
8. Before I reinstalled the dash panel, I figured it would be a good time to install the CDL switch.
Thanks CDAN for the parts and Slee Offroad for CDL instructions.
What will Sam think when he gets home?
