Noticed my truck was shifting funny and revving high just prior to a shift. Drained and refilled the transmission fluid several times but no automatic improvement. Found the kick down cable adjustment procedure on here and noticed that the cable was broken in the middle between the lockdown screw post and the barrel attached to the throttle body cam. Actually it looks like it broke off just prior to the stopper ferrule. First off, anyone experience this before? Second of all, how much of a pain is it to replace the cable with a new one? If it isn't that difficult, then would a used one off an old vehicle work fine as long as I used some liquid graphite to lube it up first? Thirdly, is the attachment to the transmission difficult to make, or just an easy bolt on connection? Thanks in advance!

I think it's referred to as a throttle cable, but I'm not positive. Use Partsouq and your VIN to track it down. It may actually be in the fuel system and not the transmission section.

Only 93 and 94 models will work on yours.

The throttle and cruise control cable are located just below the kick down cable I"m showing.

Follow up question, is it possible to put a new stopper ferrule and/or barrel for the cam?
I understand where i's located. I don;t have your VIN to do a search with and yours is different than my 96 (different transmission)

I'm sure there are crimp-style kits you can crimp something on there, but depending on how much is actually broken off, it may significantly shorten the cable.

Otherwise, for a used cable, contact @slow95z in GA, or @arcteryx in TX.

The transmission connection for the cable isn’t to hard. It just takes some time to get it all lined up. You can drop the pan with a 1/4” ratchet and a universal joint, with that you don’t have to remove the crossmember. The hardest part is removing the clamp on top of the bell housing. Very little room. If you get a used cable be careful with it as it may be brittle. I tried to move mine a little by the transmission and the plastic broke.

I'm sorry, were you saying that its a Transmission Throttle cable and not called a kick down cable? And that its possibly found in the fuel system in the FSM?

Yes. Also in the parts area in the sites posted. It may NOT be in the transmission section at all.

Sorry I didn't realize kick down cable was jargon. Pulling the transmission pan and going through all the work of routing the new cable sounds a little like a pain in the ass. Not sure the juice will be worth the squeeze in the long run. I'm hoping a barrel fix with the nuts run out a little further will do the trick. Thx for the info Bilt.
