1993 Hilux Surf No Start (2 Viewers)

Swapped out the 1KZ-TE engine for a JDM replacement, and cannot get the "new" engine to start. It cranks but nothing else.
I've noticed the following in trouble-shooting.

1. The Glow Plug indication on the instrument cluster illuminates for about 1/2 sec and then turns off when I turn the key to start.
2. Voltage on the glow plugs stays at zero when I turn the key to start.
3. I've taken the fuel line off one of the injectors and get no fuel flow when I am cranking. (Engine has the original Denso electrically controlled fuel pump/distributor.

Looks to me like the ECU is not doing it's job??
Any troubleshooting hints would be very welcome. Wiring diagrams would be a huge help!!
