Hello,

I just imported a 1992 LJ77 Prado from Europe and in need of some recommendations on electrical servicing. Prior to buying the car I was told it was an original LHD but upon getting all the paperwork and having it translated from Lithuanian to English, came to realize it was converted at some point in the vehicle's life. From the title, I can tell it started life in the UK then went to Lithuania where it received an official stamp saying it has been converted to road regulations. The car does not have a working AC, several of the window buttons are reversed, sunroof does not open and about half the stuff on the dash does not turn on.

My questions are two fold:

1) How can I inspect if the steering conversion was done properly/safely? Any specific things I should look at?
2) Any recommendations on where I can get a new AC system and the wiring fixed around the Washington, D.C., Maryland, Virginia areas?

I'm in the process of titling/registering (second time is a charm), inspecting and getting the engine tuned up. But looking ahead any recommendations on the above two question would be greatly appreciated! My mechanical skills are basic and improving but electrical wiring and steering columns etc. want to defer to the pros.

Thanks so much,
DCCruiser

Without really taking the dash apart it is hard to tell how well a job was done. Some things not working is already a red flag for me that the job was not done well. The best way that it should have been done would be to get a lhd wiring harness installed amongst other things. To do it properly there are a number of little details that would have had to have been done right. If you want some reading materials you can read through my build thread where I think I did a pretty good job of describing my rhd to lhd swap on my Aussie Ute.

Iron Pig in Fredericksburg VA maybe.
They do some high end work there. iron pig

Otramm advertises here on MUD but they don’t touch diesels.

In Frederick MD there was an auto electric shop named K &K. Helped my MGB a lot years ago.
I see that now they do all sorts of auto repair and their website says they will work on any vehicle.
