After a long search for a cruiser I think I may have found one for me. The only issue at hand is that it is a 91 and I live in Colorado and make a few mountain trips. On the plus side though - with the equity that I have in my trade I will have @ $8000.00 to play with if I go through with the deal.

As I already noted it is a 91, and has @ 154k miles. I attached the link from Auto Trader, which I hope works, to give you guys an idea of exactly what I am looking at. I am thinking I can get the price down to $5500.00. Any and all opinions would be appreciated..

Not sure if you are set on getting a 1991, but the 93 and up are the best models to get. The truck looks good, but for that money you can probably get a 1993 or 94.

I'm not sure if you've seen the Newbie guide, but it outlines the differences in the years. The 1991 - 1992 are very underpowered and have very bad fuel mileage.

No way in hell that I pay $8k for a 91 in Colorado. You can do much better. The power is just not there for mountain driving. If you want a 91 to do a motor swap on, I have a complete clean 92 without motor, tranny and transfercase I can sell you for a lot less.

EDIT, Duh, so you get $8k cash out of the deal. How much are you paying for the truck?

Nah, I think he means he will pay $5K and have $8K left over from selling his car.

I have a 91 and I'm very happy with it here in Indiana, however I lived in Co Springs for two year and the 3fe would have struggled there I imagine. It does look like it is in very nice shape. Congratualations on getting a new cruiser.

they get 1 mpg less than a 93. how is that "very bad" in the cruiser world???

the main issue is power. drive a 91 and a 93 and compare before you buy. the 91s are not "very underpowered" but they are underpowered and definitely have less juice than a 93. They also don't stop as well as a 93.

I don't know the colorado market but I would say $5000 or less would be a fair price for that truck unless it is absolutely perfect. At that mileage you should spend $1000 on preventative maintenance/tune up as soon as you buy a 91 or a 93 even if there is nothing wrong with it: for the 91 that includes new fuel pressure regulator, fix efi relay wire bug, plugs, cap, rotor, air filter, repack birfields and replace wheel bearings, maybe plug wires, t-stat, flush rad, fuel filter. maybe see if they will do any of that for you (using toyota parts!) and also see if the brakes need work.

I agree w/Semlin. I got my 91 for less than $4k, it wasn't as clean but still. 91's are slow, if you don't have a problem with that then you are fine. I use my fiance's car when I want to go fast so I don't mind driving slow in the LC.

Do yourself a favor and get a 93 or latter, if you want a 91-92, take Christo up on the offer and swap in a 350 in the 92 he has. I've been living with my 91 for 14 years, it's slow here at sea level and even slower in the mountains.

If you want a 91-92 then look in CA, they are cheap, I've seen them go for 3-4K for a really clean one.

My brother has a 5.3L long block mated to a 4L60E trans sitting in his garage from a 2002 Silverado with only 38k miles on it that he would sell to me for $1500.

I'vemade a few calls and am thinking that the cost for the install would be way out of my price range. If anyone has heard differently please let me know.

I am checking with advance adapters for motor mounts, bell housing adapters, etc, but have to make a few other phone calls for wiring harnesses and such.

gawd -- the wheels and tires have to go --

-- i love my '91 -- don't know why, just do --

What's the matter? You saying you don't like 215s? :D

wow those wheels make it look like a skateboard

Those tires look smaller the the ones I have on my stock 91'. 3FE is slow, but I don't mind it that much, hit a hill going down and you pick up speed quick :flipoff2:
