Can anyone tell me where the tach signal is generated from on my 1990 LJ78 ( cable, electric sending unit, etc.)?
Thanks.......1978HJ45

If its anything like a B series, it will be an electronic sending unit off the right side of the bellhousing.

Thanks....not having a maintenance manual can be a pain sometimes..........1978HJ45

the 2LTE tachsignal is generated by a pickup sensor on the right side of the injection pump.

Thanks....Is this sensor prone to corrosion issues where the tach signal can be temporarily lost? .............1978HJ45

highly doubtful on your babied truck. maybe if playing in the mud and water on a semi constant occurance.
i have yet to see one fail even then.

"babied truck" ...I'll have you know it was driven twice in the rain last week while I was hauling kids to a basketball game. There was even a slight incline along the way ( the boost gauge almost moved.) :) .......1978HJ45

I am indeed impressed....I was lead to believe the LJ78 was not capable of such feats. Just so you know, we also have white shiny stuff.....its called beach sand:) ..........1978HJ45

the LJ78, as i have said many times, is a wicked vehicle with a weak heart. i loved mine enough to stick a PZ into one...

Those pics look cool , I'd love to try a snow run in a cruiser one day ,I sposE even seeing snow for a start
I like it how there is a few 4x series getting out and about , hardly see any 4x series around Perth or Perth 4x4 tracks these days

I would like to think my HJ45 pickup could handle the challenge, its the lack of a good heater that would present the biggest problem. ..........1978HJ45

an auxiliary electric heater would do the trick

Perhaps....the installation of the aftermarket A/C reduced the heater fan ducting to approximately 3" and even though the heater works perfectly there just in not enough air flow.
Fortunately are Winters in the Southern U.S. are usually mild and short. ...............1978HJ45

probably the typical 4* series heater problem.
take plastic tube off side of heater, flip the flap to upward position, reach in and remove the cat, dog, rat hair and leaves and twigs, and other furry looking stuffings.
reinstall the heater feed tube
turn on engine and get warm
turn on fan and enjoy the new found heat.

40 series heaters, especially in the 45 trucks, are extremely warm but prone to lint attraction.

go give it a try, you might be surprised.

Thanks....we have a lot of small venomous snakes and spiders in this area so I will probably get one of the neighbor kids to stick his hand in first. There are to many of them in the neighborhood anyway.

Or just use the shopvac. Parents of said carpet apes may take offence to using their progeny as guinea pigs
