I’ve finally reached the point of using-up the last of my OEM thermostat stash. As usual, there’s NONE to be found in TEXAS/DalLas/port of Houston/Ontario/ or countrywide distributorship. Of course, I can buy replacements from a host of vendors but I’ve found the terms NOS and OEM can be somewhat misleading to various vendors. I’ve also understood, from the start, of the availability of two OEM alternatives…those mfg. ptior to 1988 (Oct.-Dec. 1987) and those applicabe beginning Jan. 1988. In addition, there are two opening temp. Specs available. I may not be exactly on target, but the two specs are in the vicinity of 82c. & 88c. I’m aware of the preferable opening temp and also aware that some consider the alternative opening temp in warmer climates.
Anyone have a good and reliable source for this OEM part? Call me what you want, but in spite of Mr. Toyota’s recent replacement part decision, I still begin my search for the original. Still crazy after all these years.
