1987 Toyota Hilux 2.4 diesel 4 door in Ontario, Canada

Hi, I'm a Canadian living in Honduras. I am thinking of buying a 1987 Toyota Hilux 2.4 diesel 4 door as I need a vehicle for a few months. After doing my research it appears that I can import this vehicle into Canada. To help fund myself, since I am a volunteer in Central America, is this type of truck desirable in Canada, and if so what would it be worth? Let's assume it has 400K kms, and is in OK condition.

Here's a link to some pictures: Picasa Web Albums - Fun is Google - 2011-01-19_To...

Thanks.

How much are they asking? I'm assuming it has a solid front axle? It would be worth a small fortune here in the US of A:eek:!!!!!

OR..................... do I smell the beginning of a scam AKA Nigerian Prince who inherited $4,000,000,000 dollars and needs me to help him get his inheritance by cashing some checks for him?????????????

Hi, first the Nigerian scam quote was awesome! I haven't laughed like that in a while. I'm not smart enough to make money in easy ways. ;-)
In all seriousness, this won't be a scam. If it's worth the endeavor I will ship the truck from Honduras to Miami and then drive it to Canada. I guess another option would be to sell it in the USA, but I don't know anything about its import laws and I'm not an American so I suspect that it will be difficult for me.
As for any potential buyer, I would never ask for money upfront. The worst case scenario for me will be that if I can't sell the truck then I will keep it, which is hardly a worst case since I really like these vehicles.
Thanks for the tip about the solid axle front end. I will research that before I buy it.
The asking price is high. The seller wants close to $9,200US. But I think I can get the price down. Heck, the locals here know when they have a good thing. The Toyota 22R is worshiped like a demi-god by Central Americans.

Actually, I think the asking price is way too high! I just spoke to a friend here and he bought a 1994 Toyota Land Cruiser 4 door, diesel, in very good condition with low mileage for $11000US. He's importing it into Canada. It is a nice truck!

One last question. These older Toyotas were made for Africa, CA, and SA. Is it possible to get compatible parts for them in USA/Canada?

As for the 2010 70 series work truck, I can't bring it into Canada as the govt won't accept any vehicle that's not built to Canadian or US specifications unless it's 15 years old or older.

I've seen newer (1990-91) 4 door hiluxes with the 3L going for anywhere from 6 grand to 11 grand CDN up here. with way less kms on them and some had turbos and lifts. Unless you could get it stupid cheap like 2 grand and drive it back then I doubt it would be worth it. Look into export dutys from Honduras some central american countries if I remember charge a fair amount.

I think your biggest problem is going to be registering it in Ontario. They are no longer allowing right hand drives there to be inspected and insured. If you were to bring it to Alberta or B.C., etc that would be different story.

Look at the pics.

OP, Central America has a rep of beating their vehicles pretty hard. Like all places Toyota trucks are sold, except Japan, I suppose.

I may be mistaken, but it appears to me that there is no heater in that truck. Plugs in the firewall where the heater hoses usually pass thru. Might be a tough sell in Canada, I hear it gets cold up there...

Drive it from Honduras to Austin and I'll give you $1000 for it. ;)
