We purchased an 82 with the components on this truck now, but it was in worse shape than expected. All the parts were then swapped to the 85’ body and frame. Nearly every bolt/nut has been touched on this truck within the last 2 years.
This truck has been amazing off-road, and done everything we have found to challenge it with no effort. See the links for pictures and video. It was a blast last year in the blizzards, and only got stuck when I attempted to pull out a F250 plow truck in 2 feet of snow. It was taken to the mountains of PA, and was able to do nearly everything that a friend with a Scout2 on 37”s did.
On road it is very comfortable at 65MPH. It is very stable and comfortable at that speed, but the RPM’s limit going much faster, as we did not like sustaining too many revs for a long time. We had planned to swap in TH400 transmission with overdrive, but never did.
See the links below for pictures and videos. Some videos show it on the old All Terrain tires, but it gives you an idea of the truck. It is very capable, and the videos (or cameraman) do not do the truck justice. Will update with more pictures and possibly more video, haven’t had time to search the hard drives yet.
