SOLD- 1985 Mercedes Benz 190D 2.2 L Diesel - SOLD
It’s time to pass this little gem on to someone else…I thought I’d give my fellow cruiser heads a shot at it before it goes to ebay or one of the benz forums. I’m asking $3200 OBO. I’m located in Topeka, Kansas.
The car:
It has a 2.2L NA diesel with a 4 speed automatic. It has about 211K on the clock. I’ve been getting about 31-33 in town and 37-39 on the highway. It has working A/C, power windows, moonroof, MBTex “leather” seats in great shape. The car is rust free from what I can tell. This car is right at home on the highway…cruising 70 mph with the a/c on is no problem.
History:
I bought the car with a cracked oil pan and a slipping tranny. My understanding is that I’m the third owner but that’s based on what the PO told me. Other than that it seems to have been well cared for and appears to have had normal maintenance.
What I’ve done to the car in the last 6 months:
Keep in mind this is a 22yr old car so it has quirks but overall it is in really good shape. I wouldn’t hesitate to take it out on the highway; in fact I’ve taken it to kc several times with zero issues so I’ve gained trust in it. I’ve used the car as my daily driver for the last 4 months…it’s worked out great but I’m finding that it is a little small for a family that needs car seats for kids. If my daughter was older and out of a car seat it would be the perfect size. I’ll be sad to see it go because it is a neat little car. My wife and I are looking to buy a newer car…someone will have to pry the keys for my cruisers out of my cold dead hands so the Benz has to go.

What I’ve done to the car in the last 6 months:
- I replaced the oil pan.
- I rebuilt the valve-body on the transmission including new filter, pan gasket,(and atf obviously). It now shifts properly and does not slip.
- I replaced the o-rings/seals in the injection pump with Viton in preparation for bio-diesel.
- I replaced all the fuel lines and fuel filters.
- I replaced all the rubber crank-case breather tubes.
- I replaced the valve-cover gasket.
- I replaced a couple door checks so the doors open and close smoothly.
- I changed the gear oil in the differential.
- I put in a new battery.
- New tires- the ones on there are ok but are showing a little cupping on a couple and are in need of a balance.
- The driver’s power window regulator is skipping at about ¾ shut…you need to “help” it past that point and it will close properly.
- The cruise control seems to have a mind of its own. It works one day then the next it won’t. I haven’t spent much time investigating this because I do a lot of in-town driving.
