I have a 5 speed out of a 1984 Bj42. It has 124 000 miles (200 000ish km) on it. Makes for an easy swap into a 4 speed bj42. can include transfer and drive shafts. $2000. from Vancouver bc

I'm looking at a BJ42 now but haven't made the call to do the deal. Despite it being a 1983, It only has a 4 speed transmission now. Is it difficult to have a mechanic swap it out with yours? What condition is yours in?
 
It should be a very easy swap. The 83 was set up for the 5 speed and I am including all of the odd ball parts such as the transfer case and drive shafts. The transmission it self is in good shape with very low miles. I have owned many bj40/42s and the 5 speed is totally the way to go. It makes the truck so much more comfortable to drive in the city traffic , on the highway and off road.
 
1984 Bj42

I am going to be parting out the whole truck when I get the time. 3B, power steering, the 5 speed. most of the electrical etc.

24 volt systom

The truck is 24 volt, and i do have the power steering. I would like to get $450 for it.

Seriously?! I had no idea those items would command that price. I think I'll have mine shortened/lengthened and have a simple crossmember made. Gotta be cheaper than $2000. Or did you think I wanted the transmission and transfer case? I was just talking about the frame crossmember that supports the transmission/transfer? I have a 4spd 42 with split transfer case and a 5speed out of a70 series so just need the shafts and crossmember

5 speed

I don't want to start separating it. It's 2000 for everything that you need to make your 42 a 5 speed. If you only want to use the drive shafts and sell the rest..great. If you buy one part, I will sell it to you but $$$$$! If you want the crossmember and driveshafts I will sell them for 1000$ if you want the top 42 5 speed cover 1200$ if you want the tin tranny cover from inside the cab, 1000$

I sensed that was the situation but you never know with some of the posts and threads that pop up. I'll pass on the miscellaneous items I need. Wish you would have had all this 12 months ago. I would have taken the whole shebang. GLWS
