I am selling my 81 SR5 Toyota Pickup truck, as it is not getting any use.

Specs:
1981 SR5, beige, 21700 miles (on 5 digit odometer, I bet it is 121700)
22R engine, 5speed manual transmission, transfer with 2High, 4 high/low.
Original suspension, sits on 31BFG ATs (almost new).

Everything works as it should.

This is a southern Californian desert truck, so it is in great shape with no rust on the frame or axles. The body is in amazing shape as well, and except the few dings and a few scratches that have surface rust underneath, it is super clean too. I am not sure whether it is the original paint or not, but it's in great shape as well. The only spot where the paint is peeling is in 2 small areas on the hood.

EDIT 4/15/2013: I took this to a paint shop to inquire about the paint. They suggest it is NOT the original paint. The were not sure about the bed, but certainly the cab has been repainted. It's a good paint job (according to them), with the correct paint, paint code and original Toyota graphics. The were not able to tell me how old the paint job is.

The dash has a dash cap on it, which has been paint matched. Everything else is original and works as it should.

The bed has a thick rubber mat in it, and there is no rust underneath.

I have owned this for about 4 years, and drove it for maybe 3000 miles during that time. It always starts up and runs perfectly. Just passed CA smog without a hiccup. The 5 digit odometer shows 21700 miles, but I would bet it has turned over once. However, the engine is clean and runs perfectly. It shifts just fine.

Repairs/upgrades done by me (that I can think of right now):
Rebuilt the front axle with all new Koyo bearings
New bearings (Koyo) in the rear axle
New tie rod ends (Japanese parts)
New shocks and steering dampener
New igniter and coil (OEM)
New vacuum hose spaghetti
New PVC valve, OEM
New various engine rubber hoses, all OEM
New spark plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor (Denso, the more expensive Napa plug-wires, OEM cap and rotor)
New front brake rotors
Rebuild rear brakes with new spring kit and brake shoes
Fully rebuilt front brake calipers
Belts, radiator hoses
New fluids everywhere
Rebuilt the Aisin hubs
New catalytic converter
5 x 31 BFG AT's, the spare does not fit on the hoist underneath due to the trailer hitch, but it comes with the truck
New seat foam in both seats ( SOR Land Cruiser foam, cut to size)
Took off OEM seat covers, cleaned them, reinstalled. Comes with protective covers too (not in pics). The drivers side seat bottom cover has a few small holes in it.
Installed 60 series Land Cruiser center console
Has a kill switch.

There are no leaks.
I took the pics after washing it, so there are water droplets in many areas.

Pics in the next posts.

I am asking $6500, and the truck is in the San Diego, CA, area. I have lots of pics and can of course take any you want. PM me if interested, or email at karlseder@salk.edu

Cheers,
Jan

Man, gotta say, that is beautiful. Great job for keeping it so nice!

I love it. Why km's rather than miles? Canadian truck?

My first car was an 82 in dark brown with the same type of graphic.

Gawd- this takes me back.

Me too. In the fall of 81 I went with my dad to the Toyota dealer and he bought a brand new 82 SR5 Longbed 4x4 the same color. Same stripes. Here I am circa 1991 in it.

I actually had a discussion with my wife about buying this truck the other night. But I would have to give up my 40 to do it. I don't want to do that but I'm VERY tempted. This I could afford to actually drive regularly.

I have a 1981 and its my DD. Its desmogged and gets killer mpg. I am comparing it to my 80 series though.

Let me know what other pics you want.
And what it might be worth to you.
The worst that i can say is no.

Did any of these older, carbed "mini" trucks have a/c?

Some did, as far as i understand. This one actually has the space for the controls and everything there.
I think it can be swapped in as it is all wired for it.
