1981 FJ40 For Sale -Sold

I am now cruiser-less for the first time since 1978 - vehicle sold yesterday

I am the original owner of this vehicle. It was my daily driver for almost 20 years, but has been in "retirement" since then. I am guessing it has around 250K miles on it, the odometer quit at 85K and I never fixed it (speedometer works fine).
1981 FJ-40s have factory power front disc brakes and power steering. I had the dealer install air conditioning when purchased. Also had locking hubs (Warn) installed at that time.
The frame-on restoration was done in 1999/2000. Everything removed from the tub (that could be), sandblasted and repainted. Tub and frame were sandblasted or hand stripped and re-primed/painted. Paint was a close match to the desert sand color with a clearcoat. There was a little rust in the rear quarter panels that was removed and patched. Some rust is bubbling back up in a spot on the driver rear quarter.
Still has the original 2F, only modification is a 6 into 1 header and 2 1/2 inch custom exhaust. Transmission and transfer case were totally rebuilt with standard ratio parts at the time of the restoration.
Other modifications include OME suspension package (around a 3 inch lift). Running 33x12.5 mudders at this time. Cutout the rear wheel wells for additional clearance, but the tires do rub on extreme articulation.
Installed Procar seats, which are OK. The driver seat is a little worn. Has a Tuffy console. Had to remove the rear heater for the console install but I still have the part. The interior vinyl was painted to match the other black highlights in the interior (carpet, seatbelts, etc).
Having a little issue with the brakes at the moment (probably a cylinder leaking, loosing fluid) but otherwise it runs strong.
Located in Crystal Beach, FL (Tampa Bay area). I have more pictures, I realize these are not the best (night time shots)

The color change is a long story. I actually purchased this vehicle new in 1983. FJ40s were no longer imported at that time but there were some new ones in a Miami warehouse which at one time were destined for South America (Toyota did not export to South America until 1980 or so). The local dealer knew about these and made the deal. There were still two in stock, red and blue (US mailbox blue as my wife likes to call it). The red one was damaged so I took the blue. I did not want blue, so I repainted the brand new FJ metallic grey within a year after the purchase. Pretty cheap paint job but I did not have more money to spend. When I wanted to restore it, I painted it the color I always wanted, the desert sand it is today. As I said, it was not a frame off restorarion, and you don't see the blue very often, only when the hood is up.

As I said, long story. ;)

I will post a picture of the A/C, probably will not happen until this weekend.

I have an 82 and a 76 and that sounds like great deal, dont think your gonna have to wait long, if interested in trade let me know.

A survivor. Nice.
