Scout
1980 international scout.
Trying to gauge interest. I love this thing, but am transitioning my 4x4 plans. Hard to get rid of. This is not a show car by any means, but has been reliable driving to the mountains and having fun in it, or just cruising around town. I bought this about 6 years ago. It was built in Reno, for what I'm guessing was around 20k. PO really did it up right. Built motor, MSD ignition, Griffin Aluminum radiator. Electric fans on oil cooler and radiator. Have a lot of the receipts in a folder. Poly bushings, smoothed sides, emblems, etc. Has a built up Chrysler 383 motor in it, i believe out of a dodge diplomat. Passes smog in Ca.
Since then I've probably got another $6k into it, maintaining, adjusting.... Just rebuild steering wheel with custom leather. New Corbeau seats on custom mounts and painted in the a rhino liner like material. I think it was the Hercules brand. New Hedman headers and High end starter, one of those super small, super strong ones to clear the headers. Just had a tune up last year, rebuilt carb. I think its around 500 CFM new wires, plugs, tune up, etc. Also, made a custom bracket for the transmission mount. 4wd works good.
It comes with two tops, custom made, probably $1500 each to make. The one thats currently on is the winter top that closes up. If i were to keep the truck, i'd have new plastic windows sewn in. You can see the sun's messed one side up. The second top is a bimini style top. Definitely my top choice if i had garage room for it. It laces onto the roll cage.
Heater works.
This thing is a runner, ready to go. Not perfect though. Clearly not worried about the door panels. See pics. Gas gage has never worked, I've driven for 6 years, just fill up when you think its time. I think it takes 32+ gallons. Speedo doesn't work. thinks you're in hyper speed. I think its a voltage issue, PO worked on gas gauge to no avail, my research led me to believe you need a voltage regulator or something to get proper dash readings. If i were to keep it, id switch from the 4 fans on the radiator to one and switch the mounting bracket. More efficient...
Truck drips from a few spots, there's a seal on Power steering that drips, but is so slow i don't mind. small oil drips too.
Small surface rust on the inside, I was going to rhino line the whole thing one day.
Radio works, one time crossing a creek, water popped the front two speakers, but the 6x9s in the back work great. Back seat is the fold and tuck jeep seats, but i would recover it, or give it a scrub down. Don't use much.
Tires are 33x12.5s
Some of the bimini photos have the old tan seats in. Now black Corbeau Baja Low Backs.
I'm looking for $9000. Let me know what you think.
Truck is in the Bay Area, California.
