***NEW PRICE***
$10,000 OBO

So.. I got accepted to Texas Tech and now need to pay off the loan for my 2001 4runner so I can afford rent. I don't even want to sell it, but here goes...

It's a 1979 FJ40, which I purchased off MUD as well, 3 years ago. I'm asking $10,000 OBO. I think I've put way too much money into it to sell it, but the mod's are as follows:

-4-inch leaf spring lift from SOR, includes Heavy-Duty shackles.
-35x12.5 BFG Mud's
-Weber 34 Carb
-Mini-Truck Powersteering (followed MUD's FAQ, equipment and build)
- Desmogged, with new exhaust
- HFS steering stablizer

Radiator, Alternator, Starter, Fuel Pump replaced with new.

When I bought it, the driver and passenger doors were rusted out on the bottom and the rear doors had severe runs in the paint. I bought 2 rust free doors from a local and color-matched them, also repainted the rear doors. The PO had ALL new metal installed from the fire-wall back, everything matches OEM except the gas cap is on the opposite side. The interior floor board is rhino-lined, and the underside is POR-15'd.

There is no body rust at all, there is minimal rust on the frame.

It also includes a rear tailgate purchased from Cool Cruisers for when you remove the top..also has a CD deck and 2 6x9 speakers.

Location(assuming Texas with the whole going to Tech)? and second some interior and engine pics!

Yeah I am located in Amarillo, Texas I forgot to mention that. I also didn't include that it is still the factory 2F engine. I believe the PO had the exhaust manifold gaskets replaced.

I am going to take some interior pictures right now :bounce:

any frame damage? rust/bondo? I noticed an added temp gauge.. the other gauges work ok? Any idea if it would pass smog check in California? Any idea what shipping would cost to Orange County, CA? (zip 90740) I've never purchased a car that needed to be shipped. Thanks

The only guage that doesnt work is the oil pressure guage. The OEM temp guage works but isnt accurate. I just wanted an accurate temperature reading. The only painting I have done on it was the doors, we sandblasted down to the sheet metal and no bondo was used. Everything is pure metal on the body.

There is no frame damage, there is surface rust as the PO lived in Missouri and the roads are salted there. When I got the cruiser I did some sanding on the frame and painted POR-15 to prevent any further moisture from spreading it. It has been garage kept since I've owned it.

Its fairly easy to get a estimate online, just google a vehicle shipping company. When I purchased this cruiser here originally the shipping costed $600 in a closed trailer.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I am fairly sure that the law is anything before 1980 doesnt have a smog requirement? If I'm wrong then I don't about the Cali smog check.

If your interested at all don't be afraid to make an offer, I need to sell it!

I know what you mean about the suspension. The weird thing is it's crazy smooth offroad..I'd have to say residential streets are the worst around here haha.

This truck would not pass the CA smog check with the weber and missing smog components. Don't ask how I know...

BTW, it is a very nice looking Cruiser!

what does the weber carb have to do with failing CA smog?

jmode.. this is 1979, so it does not have the split t-case transmission found in the '81+ rigs? Not sure what that means, but I hear the later years had better/quieter highway driveability? Is this the case for yours? I plan on commuting to work on roads and highways, about 30min commute, 3-4x a week. And, errands on weekend. Only the infrequent mild-moderate off-road on weekends, or camping trip with family.

NICE LOOKING FJ!

It is not a CA smog legal part. Also, the weber is missing all of the vacuum ports to control the emmision system switches. Unless the owner has all of the removed emmision parts (many parts appear to be missing), you could spend a lot of effort/money finding and then installing them...

to bad you dont what a truggy ..NICE CRUISER free bump

nice truck. hope you get your number.

Arc1, I'm not sure about the split tcase being quieter, I've never ridden in a 81+ 40. But I drive on the highway all the time and it does great. I was never planning to take it on more then mild trails either. As long as you got the money for gas, it will run all day long.

Thanks for the compliments!

so nice looking..

sigh.. I ran some numbers, and California DMV registration and the new car tax would hit me hard..

like around $1500 :censor::censor::censor: (and the f**kin' state is still broke!)

PLUS.. I'd have to put more money in to replace the weber card, add smog equipment, to make it pass CA smog..
:censor::bang::censor::bang::censor::bang:

otherwise... it's great.

sorry for the OT rant/bump..

Thursday bump! Don't be afraid to make a reasonable offer, I need to get it sold
