I am seriously considering selling my Aussie spec FJ45. I imported this truck (legally) and have owned it for over three years. I'm 6'7" and it isn't exactly comfortable to drive. It's tolerable, but the cool factor tends to wear off quickly. So, instead of letting it sit in the driveway unused, I feel it may be time to let it go to a good home. The problem is, I have no idea what it's realistic value is. I look at other 45's for sale on MUD, eBay, and other cruiser specific classifieds, but I can't seem to determine what a fair asking price would be for mine. I need some input from my fellow 45 owners.

I agree with Leaping Dear, but I reckon you will get more for it on the East Coast than out West. It has a bit of rust, but nothing that seems unfix-able. Out East it will be 'rust free', out west it will likely be seen as a bit rusty.

I'd say anything over $6,000 is a good deal all around. If it were diesel, you'd be able to add another $2-4,000 to that I'd say. It does have the factory bed, however, which is rare for an Aussie rig so I'd emphasise that in your advertisement.

I am 6'6" and I can't drive one of these for more than 30 minutes. I can't imagine how you do it with another inch:clap:

How's that BJ42 shaping up? I'd love to see photos of it. I have a photo of your BJ42 sitting in my driveway somewhere on my hard drive.

Cheers,

Josh

FF rear axle and the PTO winch are a plus. 78 is the last year the cowl was easy to replace. If someone wanted a LHD drive it would be to hard to do. Rust is far less than most trucks from Canada. I do agree it's probably worth more to bad east than out west. My 65 from California has less rust than this one. But there isn't enough rust to scare me away either. A few years back it would have been worth more and a easier sell. Not a real good market to sell toys in.

You could also look through the Classifieds and the 45 section Classifieds and see what recents 45's have gone for. I think the prices that have been thrown out though seem reasonable for the rust that is on it.

As mentioned above - the rust issues being a negative really depend on the buyer. Personally, rust means nothing to me. But I am perhaps slightly unique in that I can make any sheet metal I may need. The more original and rare parts still on board the more I'd pay. For me the RHD is a bigger issue. Others won't care and may even prefer the RHD as being unique or cool.

Either way you've got a nice rig there and the prices Josh mentioned above are all in line. I bought my 78 CDN spec 45 for a very good price (roughly half of what Josh mentioned). But I've spent three times that on it since then. Good luck with your sale.

Thanks to all for the input. We will see what happens next.

The 42 is shaping up quite nicely. Hell Creek 4" lift, stock wheels, and 33x10.5 MTR's. More work to be done.:D

Looks nice! You may need to get a taller garage:hhmm: I'll see if I can find the photo of it here.

He needs a 4" house lift!

cool mounting for that air cleaner - I've seen them on the fender but not behind like that.

Yeah, I had to remove the rear wheels/tires, set the axle on dollies, and roll it out the garage.

I can't take credit for the air cleaner mounting. It is genuine Australian engineering.
