Hey Guys,
I'm not a carb expert but I do know that someone here can help me out.
I have a stock 1978 FJ40 2f motor. Manuf. date 12/78. Does anyone know if I can run a stock Toyota carb from a 1979 2f? Are there any major differences that require modifications?

Thanks,

There are several significant differences in '78 and 79 carbs. If you need to pass smog in CA, one of the problems is where to put your EGR valve outlet. On the 78, it enters the carb above the throttle plate. On the '79 it enters the intake manifold.

In an off-road application, would i be able to make it work?

Thanks,

In an off road application, you don't need the EGR, so it will work with some other minor fiddling. Jim C is more familiar with all of the differences.

What? Oh. I'm on. Almost missed my cue.

The 78 will have fuel feed & return fittings on carb.
79 has fuel feed to carb, return originates at pump.

Like Pin sez, the EGR moves from the carb to the intke manifold.

The HIC moves slightly.

The ICS changes from single wire to 2-wire.

HAC appears on 79-newer.

It can be made to work. The important dimensions & connections (throttle lever, choke cable, overall height...) are the same.

But be aware that the 79-80 carbs are inferior to other years because they lack a secondary slow circuit, and the secondary doesn't open on a stock carb.
