Looking for a 1975-77 FJ-40 in very nice condition with little to no rust in stock paint color, (not beige or white), with 4 speed, 2F engine in great running shape, ambulance doors, hard top, prefer front disc brakes. Do not need trailer queen and not interested in project just now. Budget is negotiable based on condition and proximity.

I have an 82 I’ve decided to get rid of in great shape. Just PM if interested.

1972 FJ40.webp
Just added to my FJ "collection" recently acquiring a 1972 FJ40 from a fellow mudder. Has almost everything I was looking for- previously restored, front disc brakes, rebuilt 2F engine, Rustic Green, rear heater, new 33 in tires, Old man Emu with 2.5"lift in a turn key condition. Has barn doors instead of ambulance doors that will allow me to more easily add a canvas top for the safari style look. I am a newbie to FJ40s and will likely have many questions and appreciate any help from the mud community.

Great looking 40! Looks to be pretty much what I’m in the market for as well. Any more pictures? Mind telling what you bought it for?

Details from PO
  • The engine is a 2f 6cyl that was rebuilt along with a 4spd transmission and transfer case. This is a later generation engine -- in 1972, they were using 1F engines.
  • The front axle was upgraded to a disc brake type and the power booster was upgraded as well.
  • The ring and pinion were changed to 3.73 for better highway driving.
  • The interior is like new. The seats, dash pad and roll bar are all like new.
  • The doors open and close perfectly as does all the fitment.
  • The body tub is a Aqualu aluminum tub and it looks like the original tub. This beauty was taken down to the frame and every nut and bolt was replaced with stainless. All the fuel lines and brake lines are stainless as well.
  • As for suspension, there is an old man emu 2.5" lift and there are five 33" BFG All-Terrain tires with 90% remaining on them.
  • There is a Dakota digital instrument cluster that is bright and accurate.
  • The body and paint on this truck is almost perfect.
  • Kenwood receiver inside a Tuffy center console, JL audio speakers in custom floating cabinets for tailgating.
  • Garvin wilderness roof rack

Very diplomatic. I paid a little more than adamcbad suggested. Considering what new restorations seem to be going for these days it was a fair deal and runs and looks great for a nearly ten year old restoration.

Great find regardless and sounds like you’re stoked about it so nothing else matters. Looks like it is what a lot of people are in the market for these days so it’s worth a premium.

I’m just getting into 40’s. The experts on this forum say the earlier models have thicker steel and the 2F is better engine. It’s not totally stock though still in Toyota family tree. If I get a safari style soft top the barn doors will make it easier to manage. I’d like to change out the digital instrument cluster for a new Dakota analog and maybe the hold downs to stainless rather than paint.

I love that green.

Sorry to hijack this thread. I tried to PM Swannie about the availability of his '82 40 but his box is full. If anybody knows him can you please give him a heads up about my interest or, Swannie, if you read this can you please PM me regarding the 40 you were looking to sell.
