Hi everyone,

Due to some family issues, I need to sell my beloved Cruiser, “Petunia”. I'm hoping it can find it's way to a good "Cruiser home".

Petunia is a 1977 Toyota FJ40 121,3xx miles on original 2F, 4 speed tranny, disc brakes- Bought in summer of 1999 in Frazier, CO with 116,497 on the odometer used only in the summer for nine weeks and stored in a locker during the winter. (I work out here in the summers) Mechanically very sound and well taken care of.

First, the bad – some rust (see pics), no hard top (although I know where the original is), and the paint needs help! With a new paint job and some small rust fixes, she will take you anywhere you want to go for a long time.

I have added the following to it since I’ve had her:

3” Alcan Spring Lift, with longer, greasable shackles front and rear
Longer reinforced brake lines
Rancho 9000 shocks
Power Steering added with Classic Cruisers PS kit
Steering stabilizer
New Battery
New gear reduction starter
Roll cage courtesy of Classic Cruisers (welded together and installed by Stage West)
New clutch and related items (throw out bearing, etc.) put in two years ago by Stage West
32” x11.5 BFG Mud Terrain – purchased in 2000 from Sears, very good tread left, spare brand new
Tuffy Center console - Aiwa stereo included, but it ain't Alpine or anything!
Warn 9000 lb winch
4+ front bull bar
Hi-Lift jack 60” with rear wheel carrier – Cool Cruisers of Texas

Various things to go with any Cruiser loyalist who takes her: all recovery and tow gear, and some items not installed: set of new tie rod ends, an oil cooler, a Jim Chenoweth tuned carburetor, whatever else I find laying around that you’re interested in.

I would very much prefer this to go to a loving Cruiser home. I am leaving town at the beginning of August so please get in touch if you’re interested. Asking $5,500 and located in Aspen, Colorado.

Please email with any questions and I'll do my best to answer them.

Cheers,
Kevin

Hi guys,

Thanks for all the PMs - I've had several people express interest, in fact, I thought there was a local who was going to buy her for sure, but no one has taken her home yet. But I also wanted to address a few questions people have raised:

Yes, it's an early FJ40 hood - a split hood. The PO told me a tree fell on the hood and he replaced it from a junk yard with this. I happen to like it and added the little strip to make it slightly more authentic. There is no issue with fit.

Yes, it's been offroading, but nothing crazy. I've only used the winch once to pull out a Jeep Wrangler! (true story) And I've always cleaned her afterward. The wheels were repacked and the whole Cruiser aligned a year ago.

Yes, they are original miles.

No, I won't take $1000!!! No low balling please. I know I won't get out what I've put in (over $9000), but if you think $7000 is too much, make me an offer (NOT LOW BALL) and I'll tell you honestly if I can work it for you. TLCA members, or ih8mud members get priority! So why not take a little trip to Aspen and pick up a cool rig while you're here!

Again, I would love her to go to a Cruiser family. PM, or email with any further questions. I'll do my best to answer about what I know.

Cheers,
Kevin

Is your rig still for sale? Doe's it run & brake ok? What is the compression on all six? On the frame section near the rear (between the top shock mounts) I saw what looks like white paint, it there a crack or just a scratch there? Thanks....

Trying again...

Hi guys,

Well, I had a lot of close calls last summer with this rig, but I had to leave before I sold her. So, the description of the truck still stands (as above) - but I'm just trying to get it sold and want it to go to a good owner. I've got a bunch of parts and what not to go with the truck if you want (extra set of leaf springs, another brush guard, etc.)

No BS - I'm now asking $5500 for a great truck and all the various parts. Come get her! I'd love to get her in the hands of a Cruiserhead...so let me know. I'll be in Aspen from June 17th until August, so take a trip with a friend, ride some killer trails, and buy my Cruiser!!

Let me know! Priority given to ih8mud and tlca members.

Hope to hear from some of you!

Cheers!
Kevin

Nice rig. I hope your family issues get resolved. I hope someone gives her a good home. I can't possibly get another money pit.

Are those front seats original? Look like the post-1980 seats or 60 series seats (same I think).

Are all the engine components original toyota parts?

Any known issues other than the rust/body you mention?

Miescha-

The front seats have covers on them from CCOT - underneath the original seats are there but they aren't in great shape.

Parts in the engine - what I know is mostly Toyota. I'll look closer when I'm in front of her if you have specific concerns. So let me know. The previous owner pieced a few things together, but it's all Toyota as far as I know.

No other known issues.

Hope that helps!
Kevin
