Does anyone know who sells Trim Panel Kit for the inside 4 doors and rear cargo area? I also taught about re-upholstering myself, what would be a good backing material besides that particle board crap that breaks apart easily? Any help is very appreciated.
I'm doing the same thing. I just bought 1/8th inch luan to use as the backer. Too thin for staples so gonna try using super spray adhesive and leave alot of extra on the backside for grip. No idea if it will work well. Just got back from Home Depot looking for other ideas.
trim panel stuff is basically used parts only at this point. Use what you have and paint it up nice.
LilJohn- I read through yours before but wanted to go with a thinner panel. I have thicker wood panels with carpet-type cloth on mine now but the window crank doesn't seat right due to the wood's thickness. gonna try 1 panel with the luan to see how it goes
got one panel done today. Mine is 1/8th inch luan (pressed board) and LilJohn's was 1/4 in. not being able to use staples makes it more difficult. I used industrial adhesive to put it on. Once the back was tacky and staying well, I screwed it onto the door. the fold over on the corners was a little thick so having the screws hold the flaps down will help when it fully sets.
Not the best but I figger it cost me about $7 to make. Took less than 2 hours from a pile of ingredients to what you see here and I never took shop class
Definitely gonna use 1/4in or heavier for the rear cargo panels as they hold the bigger speakers
A while back there was a post with down-loadable files for plasma cutter CAD files so that you could take them to a shop and have them cut out of diamond plate or something of that nature. I used 1/8 inch masonite on my 65 ford falcon worked good. I haven't done it to my 55 yet. I wanted to do diamond plate.
