1973 FJ40 Landcruiser located in Sacramento Ca.
Owned about two years. Bought it for something to work on (my hobby) and wheel… never really did any serious off-roading in it. I have had my fill and moving on to another project. I have spent the last two years fixing some sloppy work by the PO and driving it around town occasionally. Always kept in the garage.
Body/Paint/Interior: Body is very straight, no rust. Paint is near perfect, very glossy and smooth. A few small paint chips, cracks, and runs. The only body panel that needs attention is the rear hatch which has a ding along the bottom edge. Top and headliner perfect. Glass is excellent, free of chips, cracks, etc. I replaced most all of the fasteners inside and out with stainless or zinc. All exterior chrome was stripped and polished (was poorly painted). New wiper arms. Rhino-lined interior and roll cage. Summit Racing front buckets, harness, back seats are excellent. Custom gauge cluster (AutoMeter Gauges) and floor shifter. Custom interior lighting. Pioneer radio deck and Fusion amplifier/subwoofer. Deck not installed right now.
Mechanical/Suspension: 350 TBI from a mid-90s truck. Low mileage, runs perfect, strong and tight, no leaks. Zero issues. Painless wiring harness. New battery, starter, plugs, wires, cap, rotor. Oil and filter changed regularly. Aluminum racing radiator, transmission cooler. Does not run hot, even in 100+ degree Sacramento heat.
TH400 transmission with shift kit. Fresh fluid and filter change. Shifts perfect and with authority when you want. Stock (I assume) transfer case with dual stick shift. Fresh oil. Very small occasional drip from rear seal. Hydroboost 1 ton brake master cylinder. New rebuilt calipers up front (Mini-truck conversion), new front inner and outer bearings, rebuilt Warn hubs, new grease seals. Stops in a straight line with a high firm pedal, front end is tight. Lifted, High steer, SOA, Rancho 5000 shocks. Tires (35s) and spare like new. Rear driveline geometry corrected by installing rear spring wedges and CV joint (Sacramento Driveline). Drives smooth without vibration. Saginaw power steering with GM tilt steering column. Rear diff has fresh fluid and gasket, along with new studs, bolts. Front diff has fresh fluid. Custom stainless steel gas tank located between the rear frame rails. Fuel sock on pump was replaced. New fuel filter.
Summary: For its age this is a very clean rig. More importantly, it drives as good as it looks, with all of the mechanicals operating without issue. I have tried to correct all the major and minor flaws, but a few things still need doing in my opinion: new spring shackle bushings, and a new rear spare mounting system and a rear bumper. Speedo needs calibration.
Price is $18,500. I have not advertised anywhere else. Thought I would try here first. Call or PM. I have many more pics.
