For Sale: 1972 Toyota FJ40
Essentially, this 40 was largely done by a friend, with the idea of a trail rig that kept as much of the Toyota heritage as practical. Usual story on the reason for sale; I took this on when I
with three little kids, I don't get much time to chase after the things it needs and the Tundra is a better platform for travelling and camping. A lot of work went in and, while there are some things still to be sorted.
The good:
2F, rebuilt (but see below), new carb. Headers, new exhaust. Starts, runs, drives well.
Vintage AC (but see below)
New (~3,000 miles) H55F
Rebuilt split case transfer case
Power steering from a '84 FJ60. FJ55 steering column.
Front and rear axles from a '84 FJ60. 4.56 gears
ARB Air Lockers front and rear
Extreme Air compressor, front and rear chucks, 5 gallon tank (I think)
HFS 3" suspension
Custom rear dual swing out
(5) new-ish Cooper ST tires
Front seats from a Saab, with integrated belts
Dolphin gauges
Tuffy console with a nothing-special Alpine stereo
Body was gone through, all rust cut out and replaced: rear quarters, rear sill, floors (but see below)
Dash storage box
Auxiliary rear fuel tank; dash selector switch.
The bad:
The 2F has a tick in what sounds like the #11 valve; I've had Cabe Toyota look at it and its not normal valve noise and not a lifter
Hard top lid needs a headliner, and the steel gutter is pretty corroded
There is one spot where the body rust has started again, behind the passenger door
The paint was called Amerishield, which I got talked into as stuff that the sales guy's boss used to paint a boat trailer that got pulled along miles of gravel roads without a scratch. True or not, there is patina in various places.
The AC works but the pull knobs to disengage the compressor and switch from cabin to defrost venting haven't been hooked up.
The wipers work but don't auto-return to the top
The steering wheel horn button doesn't work; I have a horn hooked up to the column
Located in the south bay Los Angeles area. Clean title, California tags through July.
$9600 or best offer
