1972 Toyota FJ40 Smog Exempt because it is meets the 1975 or older. That’s why I have a turbo diesel for this build.
Body:
Is in good shape and is rust free except for some surface rust. Initially, I started this project to get rid of the bad rust. That is something I completed.
Engine and Tranny:
4 Cylinder Turbo Diesel with a 4 spd automatic tranny from a 1993 Toyota Surf. (aka 1kzte motor from a KZN130) I bought it from Jarco INC. in Atlanta. It was sold to me as a half cut. I have the complete wiring harness and ECU for the motor and tranny. Total miles on the motor was 89,000 miles or 144,000 km. Most of motor and tranny are mounted above the frame rail for clearance. Only a small part of the tranny hangs below the frame rail.
Custom Fabrication:
Full 6 point cage, bolted to the frame.
Front high clearance bumper
Rear high clearance bumper with hitch for towing or winch.
Engine Cage
3 link suspension in the front. (arms are beefy chromoly tubes with biggest heim joints I could find at O.R.W. and powder coated)
4 link suspension in the rear. (arms are beefy chromoly tubes with biggest heim joints I could find at O.R.W. and powder coated)
Rock Sliders Rear end has a prerunner truss. Rear end has been moved back to provided longer and wider wheel base. Aluminium T6061 Gas tank with “gas tank cage” and protective plateRear shock tower Front shock tower
Rear fenders have been replaced with new sheet metal from Cool Cruisers of Texas and also trimmed up for extra clearance.
Axles:
Front End is Dana 44 from a full sized chevy truck with disc brakes with 4.11 gearing. The axle was setup by with an ARB Air Locker put together by Currie Enterprises. This entire unit is brand new condition never used.
Rear End is a Ford 9” from full sized truck. As mentioned earlier it has a prerunner style truss on it. It has Currie disc brakes with 4.11 gearing and a Truetrac posi with a Currie Enterprises high pinion 3rd member. The whole axle was setup by Currie. This unit is in brand new condition never used since rebuild.
Shocks:
King 14” Reservoir Shock with 2.5” body, coil overs Qty:2 I have never used these shocks but I bought them used from King. I think they were used for mock up. They are in great shape. No leaks or dents.
King 16” Reservoir Shock with 2.5” body, coil overs Qty:2 I have never used these shocks but I bought them used from King. I think they were used for mock up. They are in great shape. No leaks or dents.
Fox Racing 2” bumps Qty:2 These are not installed
Seats:
PRP full suspension seats with sliders. Brand new never used. Steering:
Steering box is from a 1993 Toyota 4Runner.
I have a black GM column that I bought from Summit Racing. It’s scuffed up from fitting it in the firewall but it is brand new and has never been used. Comes with a steering wheel from a Caterpillar Heavy Loader
Lights:
Stock FJ40 lights and also have 4 Hella Offroad lights on a light bar. Also have 1975 FJ40 stock rear tail lights purchased from Specter Offroad, new never used.
Extra Parts:
Complete Saginaw Power Steering conversion kit for FJ40 from Man A Fre. Purchased new but never used.
Original hardtop and doors available but have been disassembled. I have all the parts for the doors and also replacement window rollers.
I have the fiber glass top and all the metal parts too but the fiber glass top needs to be repaired. The cross member for the rear hatch is rusted out too. Needs to be replaced but these suckers are hard to find.
I have the front windshield with the glass too. FJ40 master brake cylinder.
I have a bunch of other stuff that I bought with this build and all of them are included in the sale of this truck.
