thats right i just got the rig yesterday
i am a proud owner of a mint green 1971 fj40 :)
my plans are:
clean up the rust and give it a new paint job
also needs a new front bumper
i would like to put a new rear bumper on it
new window rubber is needed on all the windows
possibly new tires and maybe rims
it currently has a pos radio on it that probably doesnt even work
i would like to eventually put a full pioneer stereo sytem in it starting with the cd player
new back seat reupholstering
i am thinking about rhino lining the inside floors
the head liner needs replacing

i am new to the land cruisers and am only 17 so would like any suggestions and tips that i can get on any extras or how to get more value into the rig that i can:idea:

the engine is a straight six supposedly original one 76000 miles on it
no power steering
clutch wire has been replaced but everything else is pretty clean and hopefully it will run after we clean all the fluids and put new spark plugs in:wrench:
it has sat for atleast 3 years before i got it

i said we because my dad will be helping a little bit and he was the one who bought me the rig and will be putting in the money to fix the thing up
next year is my senior year in high school and i hope to be atleast driving:steer: the cruiser to school:clap:

i will have pictures up as soon as i get home from work tonight or maybe tomorrow

Welcome to mudd
why not put a stock am/fm in it from a later yota then hide a ipod in a console or glove box?

im 19 and doing my full rebuild, its fun and you can spend tons of money quickly.

a suggested upgrade on here are 76+ front axle w/ discs

thanks and i think i am going to go with the pioneer i like my music loud and good quality but i might look into that
and look into the 76 disc brakes too

welcome to MUD. if you like loud tunes, then by all means , go for it. thats cool that your pops is helping you out, you guys will build some memories, good and bad. i bet when you take care of the minor details, she will be road worthy.GOOD LUCK.:steer: waiting for pics.

Hate to tell ya...but your list is all wrong.

1. post up some pics!
2. get the truck running
3. go through the brakes
4. fix steering
5. drive it!!
6. move on to your list ;-)

I owned a 71 mint green cruiser about 17 years ago, please post some pictures, brings back plenty of memories

Looks nice but seriously make it run solid and safe and then add your mods. You lucky dog!!

been busy withwork girlfriend and all that plus some sailing so havnt been able to get on much or work on the cruiser as much as i would like to but here is an update

got all the fluids replaced and started last week then yesterday we started it again and my dad thought one of the pistons was sticking or something on the motor but i told him it was the exaust:idea: and he didnt believe me so i told him to take it for a spin so while throwing dirt from the side of the bank going up it he took it for a little spin up the hill and back :) i hear him say well its got good compression and i guess you are right its the exaust
ya thats right i out smarted my dad so now on to working on the clutch the brakes and replacing a few seals and working on the exaust :);)happy cruisin:steer:
