Searching for a 1971 FJ40 4WD switch that is located on the transfer case with two bullet terminals.

My wires are detaching from the switch. Also open to ideas on how to repair it.

No expert here but I think the 71’s switch actually is located on the vacuum shift valve. On the firewall next to the blower motor. The harness from the switch is then routed to the connectors on the frame passenger side mid.

Switch is on the diaphragm on the transfer case to prove it's in 4WD. The firewall switch wouldn't prove the diaphragm moved and it's either in or out of 4WD.

Knew it was tied in with the vacuum system somehow. My 71 has been converted to 4spd floor shift and I’ve been trying to figure out a switch system to get the fd light to work too.

They solder pretty easy Martin.

On the one piece transfer case fab a bracket that bolts to the 4WD selector and locates a plunger style switch at the end of the shaft that depresses the switch when shaft moves forward to 4WD. The split transfer cases are pretty easy to find with a switch even those with manual shift. Certainly easier way to get the 4WD light to work but creates other problems with clearances and the hand brake.

 Run that one by me again John. Are you talking for the floorshift or the vacuum shift?

I'm saying with a floor shift the end of the 4WD shaft is exposed. It moves forward when switched to 4WD. Weather tight plunger style switch could operate the light on the dash which is what the person I quoted was trying to do. If the plunger switch had a long threaded section like a brake light switch activated by the brake pedal would have a easy adjustment. Hardest part is making a bracket that uses the four bolts that hold the interchangeable piece on the transfer for either manual or vacuum.
