Hello you guys,,,,,,,,,Charge light won't go out. Using Alternator and Regulator. No Generator. How did you guys fix this problem without using a generator. Anyone ever have this problem? My mechanic knows more of the details but he is not here at the moment. Figured somebody might know something from my brief description above. lol. fjfjfj

Hello again you guys,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,So, does anyone know if Toyota used a different charging system in 1963 compared to 1962? We can't get the CHARGE light to go OFF on my 1962 using Alternator and Regulator. My mechanic is talking about possibly putting a GM alternator on there but he is trying to stay as close as possible to all stock as per my request. We wondering what someone out there with a 1963 FJ40 is using for their charge system, since the Charge Light was still around that year as well. I did check this site from JohnnyC but it talks about going with the GM system to solve the issue. Any suggestions from you guys so that I can keep things all stock ( or close to all stock ) would be great. BTW, I received this cruiser with a GM Alternator on it. THANKS, FJFJFJ

62 and 63 would have had a generator which is a different beast. Might help if we knew what alternator and regulator you're trying to make work. You're going to need to follow the wiring for that alternator and regulator. It may not work with a charge light, there are things you can do to make the light look like it's working though.

Charge light does two things:

1 - With ignition on power flows through the light, lighting the bulb and exciting the field so the generator / alternator can make power (once it does things reverse and the bulb goes out).

2- If the generator / alternator stops making power while running, power from the battery will again flow through the light to the field and light the bulb.

Again, the alternator and regulator you're using may not be compatible with a charge light.

Hi Cruiser_Nerd,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Which Alternator and regulator should I be using so that I can continue to use my Charge Light and have it operating correctly? Thanks, FJFJFJ

Don't know on Toyota alternators. I used a 10SI because it was cheap, simple and could be hooked up single wire if needed.
