hi, if there is already something written about this issue, please refer me to the thread, I wasnt able to find anything.

I bought 16in wheels (from a 1999 hundred series LC) on craigslist a while back for my 2006 hundred series and they didn't fit. The guard over the rear disc was too big and the 16in wheel could not fit over it. Even with the guard removed, it looked like the brake caliper would have rubbed. Not wanting to risk it, I ended up selling the wheels. But I would really like to have the extra cushion provided by the larger sidewall of a tire on a 16in wheel since I spend a significant amount of time on dirt roads.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I forgot to ask the question:

1-Are the rear discs on a 2006 or 2007 100 series larger than those on earlier years (1998, 1999, ...)?
2-Are 16 wheels supposed to fit on a 2006 hundred series?
3-Does removing the guard solve the issue? Or would the entire rear discs need to be changed to something smaller?

I'm not 100% sure but I do believe the 06 and 07 ones are bigger, I know some have fitted 16s to later trucks but maybe they are the 03 to 05 trucks!

That's news to me, but I know jack about the '06-'07's. I did just put a set of 16's on my 2004 though, and they fit just fine both front and rear, FWIW. Like you, I wanted more sidewall than the 18's could give (without going to 35", 285/75/18's.)

I went to the local Toyota dealership and they could tell me a straight answer (whether or not the 16s should fit) but the only available wheels they could see in their computer system we
re the 17s and the 18s. That makes me think that 16s dont fit on a 2006. However, I've seen a few people that put 16s on an 06, Greg Miller is an example:

They won't. The 06-07 have bigger brakes due to the VVTi engine change.

I have powder coated 16" 1999 LC wheels on my '06 LX470, no fitment issues.

Guys... the 16s fit the 2006.

I'm not sure where the bigger brake myth came from. The brake change was the diameter of the pistons in the brake caliper itself and that happened in 2003+

The 17 and subsequent 18 inch wheel offerings were entirely cosmetic.

@Switchion you're not the first one to say the OE 16" wheel didn't fit the a later model 100. I believe there was more than one manufacturer of the OE 16" wheel… and with that, possibly different dimensions/specs. The manufacturers logo is shown on the backside of the wheel.

Ahhh, the wheels might be the problem then. I am sure the ones I had purchased did not fit RobRed, I tried to put them on myself and I could't get them to fit over the rear brakes. They fitted over the front brakes no problem. Maybe a different set will work. I'll try to shop around and try another set.

My 100 has AHC, I dont know if that has anything to do with it (do AHC equiped vehicles have different brakes?).

Thank you hoser

Wish you still had the wheels. It's tough to pinpoint the issue w/o them. Like RobRed said, the rear rotors and caliper piston size are the same. There was a slight change in part number for the caliper mounting bracket... which sometimes means a change in supplier. I dunno. The brake backing plates are the same.

AHC vehicles are no different, in terms of brakes. However, non-VSC 100's did have a slightly different brake lines on the rear axle. They had one brake line split into two at the axle vs two individual brake lines. You might have better chances searcing for 00-02 wheels (as they had VSC).

Here's what I'm talking about with the wheels. Pic shows two different Logos. But there has to be one at least one other component that is physically different between the two years to make sense.

Thank you for the info. I apologize for my incorrect information.

I just picked up a set of 16" OEM 1999 Lexus rims for my 2000 LC (same ones in varything's post). I'm assuming they'll fit and this thread deals primarily with fitment issues on much later models...
