Searched numerous forums and ALL of the internets - including the porn sites. Can't find a definitive answer!

Will 16" wheels fit on a GX470? Will 16 incher's clear the brake rotors? There are some really cool TRD 16" wheels out there...

Wrangler DuraTrac LT285/75R16's with an overall diam. of 33.1" Now that's what I'm Talk'n about!

Offsets on the 16's vary from +15 to + 6 I'm thinking +6 would be best with 285's? (If they fit at all) I'd be using a 2" lift and aftermarket UCA's.

Not related to this post, but TRD related to this post, not directly GX relevant, but maybe if you are looking for a new truck this link might be of interest, otherwise never mind the link, but hey, it's an awesome new TRD truck at an awesome website. O.K.?

16" wheels will only fit on the smaller 12.50" rotors...our GX uses 13.3" front rotors, so no, they won't clear our calipers.

Thanks for the sad news RCsGX.
th

Guess I'll just black Plasti-Dip the stock 17's.

Back from the dead bump...

So, 16" wheels won't fit over the front calipers...but what about the rear?

Looking for a new spare, and I found a good deal on a 16" set up that I would throw on the rear in an emergency.

I bet it would clear.
Just look thru your wheel and see the clearance differences. The rear clearly have more clearance. Would be confusing to most people but should not be a problem if you are the only one use the vehicles.

Another resurrection on this because I’m finding mixed answers... I just got some TRD Baja wheels for a deal on the wheels that was too good to pass up and was wondering if the 16’s will fit on the GX and whether anyone has really tried -according to the Aussies it can be done:

It is blowing snow at the moment and I cannot test fit them and I’m dying to know right now! If not, I guess I bought an extra set for my FJ to replace the procomps, but for $150 a pop, I couldn’t pass on them! Been wanting bronze Bajas on my GX for some time now and I need an excuse to get new tires because mine are almost dead so I’m just looking for someone who has tried this combo so I can cerakote them gold and ride!

Good timing on your post. I was just searching about 16s. Please post what you find once the weather clears up!

I just get worried when things like wheels only have mm’s of clearance but I kinda trust Australians when it comes to Toyota’s because from what I do know, the outback would be a bad place to breakdown, am I right mate? Lol

Isn't there a guy on here running those TRD bead lock wheels on a GX? He ran 4runner front brakes IIRC. I don't have a link unfortunately, just some info to nudge you in the right direction.

My only worry is running smaller than standard front rotors, especially if you're towing.

Holy s***. I LOVE those. Details on width/offset? I checked their website and they state these do not fit Lexus/4Runners but I guess they were wrong.
thanks brotha. -25 16x8. I should note, I have a 1in spacer on there because I couldn't clear the 315's; it was rubbing on the UCA's

Was the spacer needed to clear the brakes too? Or solely the UCA?

If these clear stock 470 brakes I'm thinking I'll go this route now. I had no idea they worked without comprising your brakes. Thanks for sharing fella!

they cleared without the spacers on the front and back.

Note: if you do go with a 16in rim I don't recommend reducing brakes size, just shave the caliper where it rubs. should only require some very minor shaving on the fronts if you do have to shave.

See, this is exactly what I was looking for, thank you for chiming-in! Didn’t want to be the first guy to try it and find out that the 16’s work until the metal finally expands, right at 82MPH :hillbilly: j/k... Now I see the look I wanted is achieved too because the extra tire looks badass plus I didn’t want to reduce the size of my brakes to fit the wheels either:hillbilly:, lol. I was traveling for work lately so I hadn’t got time to try for myself, but I see a need for new tires soon! I have the 1.5 spidertrax spacers on it right now with stock wheels on 33’s but wouldn’t mind going 315’s. I have 315’s with the Baja TRD wheels on my 80 series and I didn’t think it would be possible to get that on the GX with stock bumpers so again, thanks for the input. The 35’s on my FJ Cruiser changed the gearing significantly, so hwy mileage was compromised quite a bit, but I imagine the V8 compensates -so hows the mileage now/hwy cruising?

Plus it’s the wife’s truck in my case, so there’s no room for experimentation here, she’s definitely gotta keep all her teeth intact -so again,
thank you for your input!
