16" black Steelie with oval hole at valve stem

Good Afternoon gents,

Can anyone here shed some light on the difference between the 16" black steelies with an oval hole at the valve stem vs ones without the oval hole?

Is there any significant design change in this rim?

I would guess that the oval hole would be easier for getting an air chuck through to fill themail tire up. That's the case with truck with dual tires.

I work in tire & wheel assembly where the Tacoma is made in San Antonio and I can say that all 16" Tacoma black spare wheels have the oval hole as far I remember. I can't speak for Tacomas made at the old NUMMI plant or TMMBC though but I am pretty sure it is the same.

17" Tacoma spare wheels don't have it though.
