12v system how to use a 24V winch?

How did Toyota do the 24V starter on a 12V system? Maybe this is possible only for short time/duration?

Series/parallel solenoid.

I have a nice 12V 8274 and I need a 24V 8274 for my truck... I'm in Vancouver BC area if you'd be interested in a swap as long as it's in good condition. That might be the best solution for you, (and me!)
