I just acquired a BJ40 (Portugal) and upon first inspection saw that the voltage regulator on the firewall was unplugged from the harness. What should I look at / inspect to tell if this is setup for a 12v or 24v system ?

If there a good thread on this board that can point me in the right direction ?

Thanks
Mike

Hi there Mike

Perhaps the previous owner fitted an internally-regulated alternator so the voltage regulator on the firewall is no longer needed?

If there's only one 12V battery then you have a 12V BJ40.

If there's two batteries then parallel-connected still means 12V but series-connected means 24V.

Other ways to check are to read the voltages stamped/written on bulbs, relays etc

PS. I'd love to see some pics. (And from one's of your battery set-up ... and the way the big thick leads are connected there ... I should be able to tell you instantly if it's 12V or 24V.)

If there are 2 batteries, series means that the batteries are wired from positive to negative on one of the terminals. Parallel means that the two batteries are connected positive to positive/ negative to negative. Tracing the big wires will tell you pretty quickly.
