Dear all,
I am looking for a new Dashboard Cluster unit for my BJ45. The Cruiser is a 24V vehicle.
Can one use the 12 Volt setup, perhaps with some mods (e.g. bulbs), or it isn't that simple (as I am affraid)?

In the Western European market one can find the 12V unit for 250 euros (280 US$) and the 24V for 410 euros (450 US$)...
The prices are for new OEM parts.

I would appreciate your advice!

Sorry, can't help with 4x.
I had a 60 with a bad cluster, only the Speedo and tach worked. it was a 12v cluster with the little gauges swapped in from a 24v. I changed it out for a used 24v, and all was good.

Maybe Maarten at CruiserWorld.eu can help, they have both 24 and 12v experience.

I have a 1982 BJ42, which is a 24 volt system, however, the dash panel is actually a 12 volt system (bulbs, etc...). On the back of the panel is a step down device or “dropper” as Toyota calls it, to bring the voltage down from 24v to 12 volts. It seems to me that if you could find a way of dropping the voltage to the 12v range, a standard 12v panel should work.

Very educative indeed, thank you mate!

There is a new question arising, however: in case you want to go new , if you have to buy a new OEM resistor, a new oil pressure gauge etc, the cost could get equal to that of the new unit (+160 euros/$170).
Is that correct?

To be honest I’ve never met the new 24V unit. My guess it’s an unobtainium. The same is for a resistor and for a 24V oil pressure gauge.
PS The new 12V is ~350$; used 24V unit is ~50$ (Resistor and 24V oil pressure)
