Hey, does anyone no where I can get an oil cooler for a 12h-t? Toyota don't sell them anymore and all the wreckers say they are near impossible to come by. Is it the same as the 2h engine? Cheers

According to toyodiy the HJ61 part is 15710‑68020.
And the HJ60 part 15710‑68010.

So, it would seem they are not identical, 2H and 12HT oil coolers.

Locality helps when asking for help like this.

There are two different coolers for the 2H and it is important to put the different length bolts back in the correct holes they came from. cheers

Those part numbers are only one digit different...I would bet the 2H cooler would fit the 12H-T block. Mind you, finding a 2H cooler is not easy either.

The numbers are 68010 and 68020 Chris.

So I reckon these parts are most likely non-interchangeable.

If the numbers were 68010 and 68011 then I'd agree with you.

(I think the "1-digit-difference" has to apply to the last digit only.)

12ht probably has an oil feed for the turbo on the cooler

Nope, it doesn't. The turbo is fed from the opposite side of the block from it's very own outlet.

When I wrote the above I was simply going off my experience of Toyota part numbers.

And to be more correct, I think I should have said -"I think the two parts have a "significant engineering difference that is likely to make them non-interchangeable".

Just now I checked to see exactly what part it is that we're talking about. And I learned it is the "plate heat-exchanger component" that sits inside the oil cooler housing (which you probably all knew but I didn't).

So then I looked up stuff and found 68010 is listed as TWO CORES and 68020 is listed as THREE CORES.

And I also found that some 2H motors got the 3 core version (and not just the 12HT) depending on production period and market destination.

So I no longer think these particular parts are non-interchangeable despite them still being significantly different.

I think the THREE CORE version (68020) is likely to be designed for use in more severe (hotter) conditions (when fitted to a 2H motor).

I've now learned to put an asterisk next to your pronouncements Tom :^) Good research.

I wasn't clear from the original poster whether he was looking for the internal oil cooler attached to the aluminum cooler jacket, or the aluminum cooler jacket, which is prone to cracking in those countries (which shall remain nameless) where a lack of antifreeze leads to cavitation, the eroding leading to the cracking....

My original engine came with a cooler jacket with a 15cm crack in it.

I wouldn't be surprised if there's a couple of different coolers for the 2h. I had to replace the oil cooler on my 3b a while ago. Trying to find a second hand was a mission, I think there was at least 3 different types for it.
