My mistake, that is exchange, although they come with an injector pump and injectors to suit.

That's not exchange, that's jut straight off the shelf, 1hd ft is a better motor then I take it?

They seem to be the preferred motor and slightly advanced and have a little more power and torque in the more driver friendly range. personally they are both slow diseasles to me and both feel the same to drive.:D

You may not be able to exchange a hz for a hdt. HD-FTs are a lot rarer than HD-Ts and seem to be a lot more desirable. Might have more power potential

A brand spanker would cost an arm and a leg as a 1hz brand new from Toyota is 10 grand itself, possible to rebuild a 1hz to suit a turbo?

Probably you're cheapest option. Been done plenty of times before. I think there are pistons designed for it, although there seems to be a bit of uncertainty about the need for different rods or not.
The HZs can put out a fair bit of power when turbo and intercooled

Full rebuild of a 1hz with 1hdt internals, head injectors and injector pump? As the 1hz and 1hdt are the same block arnt they?

It's apparently doable, just expensive getting those parts. And you're pretty much most of the way there to getting a whole engine anyway.

The reason for all these enquiries is that the turbo on my 1hz failed the other day, took it off today and found out its a garrett m24 a/r 42, is anyone on here familiar with the chrca for this turbo? As it needs a rebuild, housings are intact and fine, still might be able to just get away with a new bearing

Final decision will be to rebuild the engine to 1hdt specs, how would I know whether or not the engine needs to be bored out? And to how much boring and honing would require what oversized pistons? (getting a 1hdt rebuild kit with reco head, new injectors and pump)

It'll consume your precious time of sourcing out all the parts, unless you have all the parts ready.
I would rather have the complete engine.;)

I would rather have a fresh, reconditioned engine to start with off scratch. Nice and smick.

That's why getting a hdt or hdft from the wreckers might be a good idea. Rebuild it then sell off the hz
