Hi

Im about to rebuild a 12HT, and amongst other parts, I need new injectors.
Complete rebuilt injectors costs a small fortune, and the FSM tells me how to rebuild my own.

But I would like the MUD hive mind's opinion on source:

I have contacted Hiflo in Australia, and they can sell me nozzles for $50 AUD, which is $52 USD.
But bying outside the European Union means an import tax of 4€ and a sales tax of 25% = ((6x52)x1.04)x1.25 = $405 USD

I can get genuine Denso nozzles from Ebay.co.uk: http://www.ebay.com/itm/281064764323?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
Costing £179.50, which is $271 USD...

The freight charges are approx. the same...

It should be a straight forward choice really, but:

  1. Can I trust the Ebay nozzles, are the genuine Denco? The shop has a good rating, and actually sells some cheaper 12Ht nozzles for €159 USD, but still, it's an Ebay shop, without much help, back-up and the nozzles can be fakes that are Denco branded
  2. Hiflo have had a bad rep- according to the InterWeb - but it seems they have managed to get their act together. But would their nozzles be worth the extra €134 USD?
  3. I need a washer kit, which Hiflo sells for $12 USD, it would be easy just to order the package from them...
Let me know what you guys think I should do?

That ebay seller seems trustworthy enough so I'd probaply go for that...

ps. how are you going to test the breaking pressure and such things if youre doing it yourself?

Have you asked a local reputable diesel shop for nozzle prices? They may not have stock, but should be able to get in decent time frame. You'll save a fair amount alone by diy removal and installation.

I can borrow an injector tester, although I have considered the diy-version using a bottle jack...

Maybe it would be a good idea to do a write-up, when I do it?

I have asked around, but the prices are much higher than Ebay or Hiflo...

Definitely do a write-up if you decide to go for DIY version since I really should do my injectors (afaik mine havent been touched in 400 000 kms or so...) but I'm pretty sure that shop prices would be something phenomenal...

Christian, give me a call

I have what you are looking for.

Henrik, will do!

An update:

Henrik had a set of original Denso nozzles I bought at a really fair price.
ANd on top of that, he let me borrow his injector tester!

Gotta love the Cruiser community!

(A bit fun though that two Danish guys use an American forum to meet)

I will do a write-up, but in a separate thread, to keep it clean.
But I have never done this before, and will be getting my information from the FSM and the web, so comments, hints etc. beforehand are more than welcome in this thread.

I don't think Henrik has more, he had bought the ones he sold me for his own, but never got around to it.
They were originally bought at dieselkontor.de in Germany.

I ordered a set of shims from them today, and got some advice; when pop-testing real profs use a special oil, which is rather expensive. But diesel mixed with motor oil is fine, 1L diesel to 2 to 3 table spoons of engine oil.

I was told not to use straight diesel because diesel today is so clean that it simply doesn't lubricate well enough. You risk jamming the injectors when pop-testing. Interesting!

The oil they use is also apparently safer with respect to your lungs - diesel is really bad as the surfactant in your lungs has difficulty dealing with it.

That makes sense. If rebuilding and testing injectors is your job, you are exposed to a lot of fumes on a daily basis.

Hello Christian,
Could you tell my the part numbers from dieselkontor.de for the nozzles and shims? I live in the Netherlands so this would be a good options. Will test my injectors first to check on the situation.
Thanks!

Only happy to help :-)

I bought the big set of 7.25 mm shims, those are the right size for the 12H-t nozzles.

I might have gone overboard with such a big set, but with 3 12H-t's in the shop I thought I'd use them eventually.
