installing a 12ht into my 87 FJ60. This will not be an action packed thread. I will only be able to word on it once a week. The 12ht is 24volt so i started gathering parts to make it 12, now that everything is here i pulled the drivetrain and grinded off the motor mounts. Next will be to clean the underbody and if needed paint and seal it. You have all seen the motors pulled so i will just show pics of the engine bay. Looking forward for any valuable info, the 12ht has the h55 so i will using the trasfer case which is vacumm. I may have alot of questions about the electronic switch for the inside cab. Here are a couple of pics.

What did that engine come out of? Mind if I ask what it cost you?

it came out of a hj61 a diesel version of the fj60, they were sold in japan and australia. the diesel drivetrain cost7500

Hey gehn, could you give me a simple explanation of the vsv valves for the transfer case? also where do you give the case vacumm from? i noticed that the ports were a pretty big. any info would be helpful befor i put the drivetrain in.

vacuum is routed from the vacuum pump (which I believe is attached to the back of the alt on those engines) to the VSV's via a single 3mm hose, and then is T'd into both valves. The two VSV outputs are also 3mm, and run parallel down the firewall to the hard lines. The hard lines bolt to the firewall just inside the frame, and have 3mm input and ~3/8" output for the soft lines to the T-case. Does that make sense? You can get the hard lines off a 62.

that makes perfect sense. how would i wire the switch to activate 4wd high?

There are a number of ways you can do it. I used a SPDT (Single Pole Double Throw) relay and wired the original H4 switch to work as a SPST (Single Pole Single Throw) switch to control the relay coil. The H2 VSV is wired to the normally closed lead, and the H4 VSV is wired to the normally open. So when the switch is off, power through the relay is directed to the H2 VSV. When the switch is on, the relay coil is activated and directs power to the H4 VSV engaging the 4WD.

Nice proyect .. when you where ready to run your engine be sure to get a fuel water separator, Delphy or similar ..

those 12H-T are of the best turbo diesel engines ever made by Toyota ..

You can source an alt with vacc pump from a Hyundai Galloper or a Mitsubishi Montero both 2.5 and 2.8 Turbo Diesel with alt that come with rear attached vaccum pump. Both delivers 110 and 120 amps ..

can someone help with this. these connectors onthe transfer case i know one is for the reverse light , two for 4wd but the others?

well yesterday i got alot done. the frame mounts for the 2h and 12ht are the same so i took some pics of them, the 2f mounts will not work so for those who have done it using the fj mounts i dont see how unless you chop them up. also got the drivetrain cleaned and installed. the fan shrouds are inthe same place but the diesel fan has a larger diameter. heres a couple of shots of the work.

Sir, do you still have your ignitor for you ignition on the 2f motor. If you do would you be willing to get rid of it. Thanks Jason

the power steering pump on the 12ht is on the opposite side. I pulled the lines of a 62 that bolt right in place and the hard line screws directly into the pump on the 12ht. the return on the 12ht pump is 5/8 diameter where the 62 is 3/8 so i have to find an adaptor and figure out where to mount the resorvoir.

I am sorry if I seem a little bit pushy, but I am curious as in how long before you planned to be finished. Once again sorry for the pushyness. Jason
