I am in the middle of installing a CB. I am using the ashtray slot since it is a good clean fit.

I have the 12 volt power leads running over to the driver's side foot well.

Looking for help to find an easy 12 volt power source and ground underdash.

I looked at the fuse block near the driver's left knee and didn't find any open terminals.

Thanks,

If that cb draws less than 5 amps (just check instructions or supplied fuse size) I would tap into the cig lighter or radio circuit right above where you have the cb mounted. If it draws more than that, it should go directly to the battery with a fuse within 18". Hope that helps.

folks have mentioned the power seats and wasn't there also some power buried in the console for a fridge or somethin' that isn't used in the US models?
do a search!

mine is tapped into the cig lighter feed...

one problem is that if your cb has any memory functions (last channel etc) it won't work because the cig lighter is ign switched.

I just used the cig adapter. It works great and you can get an adapter that is a spliter for more cig lighters for cell phone charger or whatever.

it was suggested by my CB retailer (they're pretty hard core when it comes to CBs) that I run dedicated power to my CB -- i.e. directly from the battery and not share this power with any other device. Their reasoning for this was that it would reduce the chance of interferance from something else sharing power with the CB.

It's pretty easy to run a wire from the battery, through the firewall to the unit under the dash.

If you decide to go to the battery there is a ~2" round rubber plug where the clutch master cylinder would be, pop it out cut a slit it and run your wires through. It is easy to get to from both sides of the firewall.

I read that too on some of the CB sites. Then I completely ignored it and did it anyway. No problems, good range, low SWR, good clarity. The only interference I get is a 1 second buzz when I engage a locker. Only thing I don't like is only having one power outlet.

I ran mine throgh the cluthc grommet direct wired to the battery with a main fuse next to the battery then a lighted (aftermarket) switch on the dash, this feeds the cb and will one day feed the inverter that currently I unplug form the cig lighter.

My guy's name is Bubba and he has a Screamin' Eagle tattoo on his neck. He keeps a pack of camels rolled in the sleeve of his T-shirt. He scowls at me when I refer to my Cruiser as a "truck." He wanted me to rip out my console and slap in a dedicated battery for his CB.

Sounds like you found a good CB guy then. :D
